There is a lot of scope and future after getting an MTech in Aerospace Engineering from IIT Bombay. If you're interested in pursuing Aerospace Engineering, you should know that IIT Bombay is the best institute in India for this field.

One of the best things about IIT Bombay is the flexibility it offers to students when it comes to choosing their course subjects. You can choose subjects that align with your interests, and only the core subjects are compulsory. This is beneficial for job opportunities since companies look at the subjects you've studied during your academic tenure.

Regarding Aerospace Structure, the subjects offered in this specialization are quite similar to the machine design stream of the mechanical engineering department. The curriculum also includes state-of-the-art subjects related to composite materials. All the professors in this field are renowned experts in their respective areas.

While only a few aerospace companies come for recruitment, students with a clear understanding of the subjects studied in Aerospace Engineering from IIT Bombay can easily secure jobs in both core and non-core industries.

Apart from job opportunities, you can also opt for research work or pursue a Ph.D. in IITB itself or universities abroad. So, if you want to pursue Aerospace Engineering and build a strong foundation for your future, IIT Bombay is the perfect place for you.

Is there is equal value in doing an MTECH from IIT Bombay in comparison to doing a BTECH from IIT Bombay?

AT
Adwait Tejas Posted On : March 18th, 2023
studied Aerospace and Aeronautical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (2021)

As an IITB undergraduate, you may observe that some UGs do not respect M.Techs from IIT Bombay. However, this is not a fair judgment as M.Techs work hard on their projects, have great practical knowledge of their stream, and know their stuff. While clearing JEE is a parameter to gauge one's intelligence, it does not solely determine one's worth or capability.

Interestingly, the placement survey of the past 2 years reveals that M.Techs give tough competition to UGs during placements and get placed in core jobs with good packages. In fact, in some cases, fewer UGs get placed in core jobs and instead opt for non-core sectors or start-ups. Companies like BMW and Mahindra have taken in a good number of M.Techs from the mechanical stream.

Therefore, it is crucial to recognize your capabilities and potential, and not judge or compare yourself based on the degree you possess. B.Techs and M.Techs have different parameters of evaluation, and both seem to have done well for themselves in their respective fields. Remember to focus on your skills and knowledge, work hard, and opportunities will follow

Which is the best hostel in IIT Bombay and why?

PD
Priyanka Das Posted On : March 18th, 2023
Studied Marketing at Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai (2019)

My brother had the pleasure of staying at hostels 9, 16, and now 13 in chronological order. However, he claimed not one hostel had the complete facilities one expects in a hostel. I have described each hostel in a few pointers

Hostel 9

  • Extremely small room difficult for even 2 people to share
  • The best food in the entire institute is served in this hostel
  • It has many facilities like a pool, a small footer field, basketball court, table tennis and makes your leisure time great

Hostel 16

  • This hostel has some of the best rooms in the entire institute. The rooms are double occupancy but can easily be shared by more people.
  • If you are lucky enough to be allotted the 6th floor or above, you can get a spectacular view of Hiranandani.
  • The food is not very good

Hostel 13

  • The room is usually for PG or DD students
  • The rooms are single occupancy and are decked with decent facilities
  • The food in the Mess is neither too good nor too bad.
  • The hostel has a wide range of extracurricular facilities. There is a TV room that can accommodate around 70–80 people.
  • This hostel is most coveted because of the spectacular view of the Powai lake and the Hiranandani it offers.

Why does IIT Bombay have so few GSoC acceptances compared to newer institutes like BITS-Goa and IIIT-H?

SS
Sandip Sadhukhan Posted On : March 18th, 2023
IIT Bombay (2019)

First of all, neither ACM-ICPC nor GSoc truly defines a person's worth or skills. I have seen many IITians mocking GSOC claiming it to be worthless. The truth is quite different. GSoc is one of the best opportunities for 1st and 2nd years, and for anyone not interning at Google, Microsoft Research, Stanford, ETHZ, and similar companies. However, GSOC required a lot of dedication and commitment. IITians prefer easy jobs that require minimal effort. This is the reason they prefer foreign internships that can be easily sought because of the IIT tag.

GSOC belongs to an altogether different league. You have to spend months contributing bug fixes to a project and staying dedicated over a long time. Your school name has no value unless you work hard to demonstrate your dedication.

GSOC is worth a lot and IITians are usually misguided by their seniors to believe the contrary. One gets to design a good project proposal, compete with everyone from all over the world and then implement it. This is way better than the web application development one does at Goldman or Morgan or Yahoo.

Usually, institutes like BITS Goa and IIIT-H are only after success and thus try to compete with the big names to gain fame. So it’s better if people with privileged backgrounds and institutes make their names for themselves and stop dominating those that have earned their worth through efforts and not just tags from big institutes.

How much are the living expenses and the fees at IIT Bombay for an M.Tech?

AT
Adwait Tejas Posted On : March 18th, 2023
studied Aerospace and Aeronautical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (2021)

The detailed fee structure of IIT Bombay is as follows

Particulars

Data

Yearly Fees

INR 54600

Hostel Fees

17.25k/- year

Unless you study in an IIT, you will never understand how much the Government invests in an IITian. The semester fees along with hostel fees are more than 20-30k.

The students who got admission through GATE, receive a monthly stipend of around 15k which compensates for the meager fees spent. You can spend the rest of the money on your expenses. Moreover, all the essential commodities are made available on campus that too at reasonable rates. So one can even say that you are studying free of cost with money from the tax-paying public.

Why do so many people take Computer Science from IIT Bombay?

AB
Advaith Bhaskar Posted On : March 18th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India (2000–present)

If I have to be honest, I think pursuing Computer Science at IIT Bombay is just a sheep mentality-driven dream pursued by a majority of Indians. Not many who take CS are genuinely interested and passionate about it, rather they opt for it because most genius minds consider it the best option.

The media comes to play as it advertises the highly inflated packages offered to CS students at IIT Bombay. The aspirant gets attracted to such glittering figures and flocks to IIT Bombay in the pretext to land similar packages. The media and society mold aspirants to believe that money is everything in one’s career and should always be the priority. As a result, students tend to opt for CS and don’t even consider other Engineering branches for fear of getting packages lower than those offered to CS students.

One can easily conclude that most engineering aspirants are unaware of their inclinations and thus become victims of sheep mentality. I have seen many students who join Computer Science and later realize that it’s not their forte.

Is IIT bombay aerospace worth it?

HP
Hrushikesh Potdar Posted On : March 18th, 2023
MTech from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IITK) (Graduated 2020)

Honestly speaking, if you are passionate about Aerospace, I suggest you opt for IIT Kanpur rather than IIT Bombay. The following points support my inclination toward IIT Kanpur for Aerospace.

  • IIT Kanpur has its own Airstrip and private planes.
  • Students perform experiments while flying over the campus.
  • IIT Kanpur offers a real-time experience that won’t be possible at IIT Bombay.
  • IIT Kanpur has MOUs related to VTOL, EVTOL Unmanned aerial vehicles, etc.
  • The size of the IIT Kanpur campus is almost double that of IIT Bombay.

However, if you are not into Aerospace and are just interested in placements, you should put extra effort into coding, Data Structures or ML, and Python and can consider IIT Bombay as a good choice.
