Which is better: IIT Gandhinagar, other new IIT electrical, or BITS Pilani electrical and electronics?

AS
Ankit Sigha Posted On : February 19th, 2021
IIT Delhi (2019)

You should first consider the branch and then look at the college that you want to go to. Go through the brochures, as well as whatever information is available on the website, that will provide details about the course structure. This will help you gain a brief idea about what you can expect in the next four years of your academic life, and if it suits you.

Half your battle is conquered if you have an interest in what you are studying. College rankings, average packages, and statistics will not help you much other than provide a brief overview regarding the college.

Comparison:

  • New IITs have a lot of catching up to do initially. You will see that a lot of them will have a temporary campus, and some might not even have a hostel. A few students are also of the opinion that the labs are not that well developed and equipped. But, if you are going after the IIT Brand name, you should go ahead.
  • BITS Pilani though is well established. There is academic flexibility, choices between electives and clubs as well. All this will ensure that you get an all-around education. Many would say that BITS Pilani is at the same level as any other IIT and better than any new IIT for sure. And if you are planning for electrical and electronics as your major, the institute is ideal. It boasts of the best faculty for electronics in Asia. A disadvantage is that BITS hikes its fee every year. It does not have any less of a brand value than IIT. But with the current fee of INR 4.23 lakhs for the first year and a 15% hike in tuition, it could get expensive.

Do your research and see which college suits you better, fees and course-wise. Then make a decision.

Which college is better: IIT or BITS Pilani ?

RT
Rohit Trivedi Posted On : July 18th, 2022
B.E. Computer Science & MSc Mathematics, Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

Old IITs like Delhi, Mumbai, Kharagpur, Madras, and Kanpur rank higher than BITS Pilani. If you are getting admission to any of these IITs, go for it.

IITs like Dhanbad, BHU, Guwahati, Roorkee, and BITS Pilani belong in the same category. So, go where you are getting your preferred branch.

BITS is much better than the new IITs like Jammu, Mandi, Patna, Jodhpur, Goa, Pallakad, and Indore.

BITS offers an excellent campus experience which helps in overall personality development. As a student of the institute, you will have the freedom to study and explore any interest you have.

Which should be preffered IIT bhu electrical or BITS pilani EEE?

PR
Parag Roy Posted On : August 14th, 2020
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (IIT BHU) (2016)

Both institutes are among the top institutions in India. So decide accordingly based on the following factors -

According to NIRF Ranking 2019, BITS Pilani is ranked at 39 and IIT BHU at 28. So the numbers show that IIT BHU has performed better over BITS Pilani in terms of infrastructure, faculties, research facilities, outreach, and location.

The IITs being run by the government body, the fee structure is less as compared to BITS Pilani. Also being government institutions, IITs have fee waiver schemes available, unlike BITS.

Electrical at IIT BHU includes only the core electrical subjects which is why a lot of the students end up preparing for software/hardware companies for the placement with a decent package since there are few companies employing core electrical students. On the other hand, BITS Pilani has a combined electrical and electronics engineering course which provides students with the knowledge of both the areas as the industry demands so and also provides opportunities in various areas. So if you are interested in learning more and in-depth about the subject, BITS Pilani should be the choice. Being a private institute, they have very flexible and effective course structures.

Overall, both the institute has good faculties. However, when it comes to IIT BHU since it is an older institute, it has many well-experienced faculties. Moreover, IITs lead in the research facilities as well as in research work.

Both institutes provide good placement opportunities to their students. According to 2019 placement statistics, a total of 88 students got placed from Electrical in IIT BHU. The average CTC ranged between 10 LPA to 58.21 LPA. While in BITS Pilani the placement percentage of EEE was around 59.3% with an average CTC of 14.86 LPA. If you are interested in MS after B.Tech, then BITS-Pilani would be better. Though IITs are popular worldwide, it is better to have the BITS tag for doing MS. If you are planning for an M.Tech or research-oriented career in India, IIT BHU is better.

Both institutes offer a huge alumni network. BITS has many alumni working in foreign, international brands. However, the alumni network of IIT BHU is a little larger since it is older and its alumni are present in every possible career paths.

Should I prefer IIT Kanpur for electrical or BITS Pilani for a CS?

AT
Ayushi Tiwari Posted On : April 20th, 2023
IIT Kanpur (2019)

Both IIT Kanpur Electrical and BITS Pilani CS are excellent choices yet, if I had to choose one, I would have opted for BITS Pilani CS. Here’s why,

  • It’s not a brainer that a CS branch will fetch you more opportunities in terms of packages and exposure. It has become one of the most demanded branches and has numerous opportunities for everyone. The workload is also less sparing you more time to explore your area of interest.
  • BITS has been given the IoE status making its tag superior in terms of a brand name to IIT Kanpur.
  • There are no compulsory attendance rules making it easy for students to leave classes that they find irrelevant and do something productive during that time.
  • The accommodation facilities at BITS Pilani are better than IIT Kanpur and students get to have their own room starting from the second year itself. You don’t have to wait for the final year like IITs to get a single room.
  • IIT Kanpur's fees are around 8-9 Lakhs whereas that of BITS Pilani are around 19-20 Lakhs. This might be a problem for the financially weak strata. However, BITS Pilani offers many scholarships and you also get a high-paying job much more easily.

Today, CS is one of the most preferred domains and its demand is growing at a very fast rate in the job market. For anyone whose ultimate goal is high packages in top firms, CS should be the only choice. No other branch can fetch you packages as high as CS.

As a BITS Pilani student, you can access the extensive alumni pool and develop strong networks in industries. Also, the CS placements at BITS Pilani are top-notch

I wouldn't suggest you go for ECE IIT Roorkee unless you are genuinely interested in that field and want to pursue a career in it.

Which is better: IIT Roorkee or BITS Pilani?

AB
Aditi Banerjee Posted On : April 12th, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

Both IIT Roorkee and BITS Pilani are excellent engineering colleges and it’s difficult to compare them. However, I would like to point out some basic differences

Fees: BITS Pilani fees are around 20-25 Lakhs whereas that of Roorkee is almost half around 10 lakhs. Considering the ROI, IIT Roorkee is a much better choice.

Campus life: IIT Roorkee organizes better fests at a much larger scale than BITS Pilani. Also, IIT Roorkee is in close proximity to tourist spots such as Mussoorie and Rishikesh, making them a good weekend getaway.

Exposure: Being a government Institution, IIT Roorkee offers better exposure in terms of research work and you can find most of the professors here working on projects. However, the alumni base and startup culture is better at BITS Pilani.

Coding and Dev Community: IIT Roorkee has an edge in this aspect because of its number of GSOC selections(highest in India) and also Top finishes in ICPC every year.

Infrastructure: The government-funded institute, IIT Roorkee has better-equipped labs and computer facilities.

Academics: BITS Pilani does not have any strict attendance rules giving enough flexibility to students to explore beyond academics. However, branch change is much easier at IIT Roorkee than Placements. IIT Roorkee has the best opportunities in the IT sector. For those willing to pursue a career in Software development, IIT Roorkee is the best place.

Placements

INR 60.75 LPA

Top Recruiters

Internships: BITS Pilani provides good internship opportunities in the 2nd and 3 rd year owing to its practice school system.

Overall, both institutes give a constant edge to each other and one should consider their personal preferences before making the final decision.

What is better, BITS Pilani or IIT Roorkee?

RM
Rajashree Mukharjee Posted On : April 12th, 2023
M.Tech Control Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (2021)

It is difficult to say which is better, BITS Pilani or IIT Roorkee, as they are both highly respected institutions in India. Both universities have strong programs in engineering, technology, and science.

However, BITS Pilani is known for its focus on undergraduate education, while IT Roorkee is known for its research programs. Yet if I was to choose one, I would have chosen BITS Pilani for BTech

  • You are free to opt for minors in finance or humanities and even take subjects from different branches of your interest provided that you clear the minimum credits for an engineering degree in the branch you are pursuing currently.
  • The attendance rules are very flexible giving students time to focus on their interests or even become an entrepreneur.
  • You get the opportunity to get employed in a top-notch industry of your choice apart from the placement offer from the institute as an internship in the final semester where chances of getting a job offer are very high.
  • The Placement scenario is much better at BITS Pilani than at IIT Roorkee

However, if you are someone who is interested in MTech in core branches or is inclined towards research work, then IIT Roorkee has a better research culture. Moreover, the extremely high fees at BITS Pilani might be a demotivating factor for many making IIT Roorkee a much better choice.

International competitions: The order remains the same except BITS scores better than IIIT Hyderabad in this aspect.

Startup culture: The startup culture too is best at IIT Bombay, then IIT Delhi followed by BITS and Hyderabad.

\Alumni: IIT Bombay has the highest number of successful alumni across the globe after which stands IIT Delhi, BITS Pilani, and finally IIIT Hyderabad.

I don’t think it’s logical to compare extremely old and government-funded IITs with private institutes like BITS and IIIH. The alumni reach is also incomparable.
