How is XLRI compared to IIM B and C?

UC
Udita Chowdhury Posted On : June 28th, 2022

XLRI usually scores right after IIM B and C. If you are interested in Marketing or Finance, you should definitely choose IIM B or C. These have better brand recognition and at least 10-15 companies visit the campus placements of IIM B and C which don’t come to XLRI.

Hower, XLRI HRM is the best Human Resources course available in the country. In terms of alumni and career opportunities, it is way better than IIM B and C.

I have 6 years of work experience in IT and wish to get into product management. Which is a better course to join - ISB's PGP or IIM Bangalore's EPGP

There are two scenarios for product management

  1. B2B: Business to Business product management does not necessarily require MBA
  2. B2C: Business-to-customer product management is better with an MBA degree. The placements for MBA will get you a high-paying job in B2C product management. B Schools like ISB prefer a work experience of at least 4-6 years. Roles offered through placements include senior product manager to product manager.

The fact is no matter what your skills are, this industry is biased towards MBA. So the final decision should depend on what you are going for.

Are packages offered at JBIMS FMS comparable to those offered at IIM ABC?

TA

All five of the institutes mentioned in the question are among the best business schools in India. All of these business schools have been around for decades and have a long history.

Comparing these Institutes is not an easy process but since the question necessitates a comparison on the basis of placements, let us have a look at the comparison in placements of all these Institutes:

Institutes

Highest International Package

Highest Domestic Package

IIM Ahmedabad

83.5 LPA

70 LPA

IIM Bangalore

NA

NA

IIM Calcutta

80 LPA

NA

JBIMS

NA

34.36 LPA

FMS

NA

58.6 LPA

Institutes

Average Package

Median Package

IIM Ahmedabad

25.83 LPA

NA

IIM Bangalore

26.18 LPA

25 LPA

IIM Calcutta

27.9 LPA

25.5 LPA

JBIMS

22.84 LPA

22 LPA

FMS

25.6 LPA

23.4 LPA

According to the comparison, while the maximum package of JBIMS is significantly lower than that of other Institutes (including FMS), the average and median packages are comparable to the Institutes. It is also worth noting that JBIMS and FMS are the most affordable B-schools, with fees far cheaper than those levied by IIM A, IIM B, and IIM C. The ROI from JBIMS and FMS is unquestionably the greatest!

I am fresher student studying at IIM Lucknow, I want to drop out. What are my chances of converting IIM-A,B, C after gaining 2-3 years of experience?

SG
Saloni Gupta Posted On : January 8th, 2023

I don’t think it's wise to decide to drop out from IIM Lucknow when you already worked hard and cracked the entrance. You even succeeded in the interview and yet here you want to give it all up. Every year the level of difficulty of entrance exams like the CAT and XAT keeps changing. Students who might have scored 90+ percentile one year might score 40-60 percentile next year. It all depends on preparation and mindset. Meanwhile, you have already succeeded and gotten into an IIM so why take it for granted?

Yet if you are adamant about not continuing, I would suggest you just focus on your job and gain a lot of experience. Chances are that you might climb the ladder without an MBA or IIM. Many CEOs and CFOs don’t need an MBA to make them what they are.

Despite it all, if you are appearing again for CAT, then make sure you have a valid explanation of dropping out during your interview.

These programs have great value in the areas of management and leadership, and help professionals advance their careers and increase their earning potential. Moreover, the reputation of IIM Bangalore as a leading institution in the field of management education also adds to the perceived value of its Executive Education Programs.

Here is how an IIMB Executive Education program helps you provide the best job opportunities

  • Prestige: Executive Education programs are highly competitive and thus speak of your credibility and worth through your resume.
  • Networking: An Executive program enables you to interact with accomplished professionals in your industry, both as classmates and course instructors or speakers.
  • New skills: The Executive Development Program imports the skills necessary for better roles and responsibilities.

Lastly, I would like to comment that these Executive programs have certain eligibility criteria based on your managerial level, years of experience, and specific functional knowledge and it’s not justified to call them unscreened programs.

What are things that should not be done at IIM Bangalore?

AJ
Arshit Jain Posted On : January 5th, 2023
Studied at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore

Here are few things that should not be done at IIM Bangalore:

  • Being unproductive - Make good use of your time. Determine your priorities and what you want to accomplish. At IIM Bangalore, a lot happens, and you can get lost trying to do everything. To avoid this, consider what you want to achieve at the end of the two years and the type of career you want to pursue. And direct your activities, studies, and research in that direction. Talk to professors, alums, and seniors to learn about the requirements for the goals you've set for yourself, but keep in mind that these conversations are only to gather information and some advice. At the end of the day, you make the decision, not the alums, seniors, or professors. However, both the gathering of information and the making of decisions are equally important.
  • Procrastination - Begin focusing on spending time running, playing sports, or going to the gym, rather than just sitting idly. It is necessary to be able to handle stress and break the monotony of academics and other activities.
  • Plagiarism - No matter how difficult it is to come up with a solution for your assignment or project, never take the easy way out. Push yourself because that is the only way to learn and retain what you have learned. The longer you stick with the difficult path, the easier it will eventually become.

Why does IIM Bangalore bag more consulting roles than other IIMs?

AM
Anuj Mukharjee Posted On : July 29th, 2021
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (2020)

This is not a consistent trend at all. As per the final placements statistics of the 2017–2019 batch, the major portion of IIM Ahmedabad went for consulting than that of IIM Bangalore.

  • This pattern definitely varies each year across campuses. And one of the prominent reasons for this trend may have something to do with the selection pattern, and batch composition at IIM Bangalore.
  • IIM Bangalore generally considers students with work experience more favorably in the selection process.
  • A few of my friends did attend the IIMB’s interview and they told me that it was one of the most pleasant experiences. This was because the majority of questions circled around their work experience.
  • There are also cases in which a student who has scored well in CAT might get a call from IIMA and other top B-schools but not IIMB. This can be attributed to a lack of work experience, that’s where these candidates miss out on scoring points.

This is why IIMB consists mainly of students with good work experience.

Many of these students have come after working at firms that are industry leaders in their domain. Consulting firms prefer candidates with work experience, especially the ones who’ve worked in companies as industry leaders. Thus they may be willing to roll out more offers at IIM Bangalore.

It may be true that IIM B received more consulting offers in certain years but it may not be correct to accept this as a general trend across years.

How is it like being at FMS Delhi? Would you trade your life with someone studying in top IIMs A B or C?

GY
Gaurav Yadav Posted On : January 10th, 2023
MBA in Marketing, Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi (Graduated 2002)

In comparison to the IIMs, FMS retains the advantages of small batch size and a fee structure that is relatively low. The small batch size simplifies placements significantly. With the exception of a few foreign consultancies, most of the top companies that visit the IIMs also visit FMS. Despite all of the university's bureaucracy, etc., there is a well-established alumni network that still ensures that things work out for the current batches.

Because of the small batch size, people are extremely competitive. This was in stark contrast to what you hear about the IIMs. Even though they have competition but they maintain some semblance of sanity due to the large batch. FMS can be difficult to manage at times, both in obvious behaviours and subtle actions by people you study with.

The culture at FMS is influenced by the culture of Delhi. In comparison, IIMs are unquestionably more cosmopolitan. Unless you have prior exposure, adjusting to a new environment can be difficult for people from very different cultures, such as the South or East. Otherwise, you'll have to learn to adjust the hard way. But it's still worth the effort. The people you meet in both locations are of the highest calibre. It is up to you to make the best of the situation.

Even if given the chance, there's no way one would like to trade places with the IIMs.
