How was your interview at IIM IPM Rohtak?

MB
Mrinaal Bhargava Posted On : January 10th, 2023
Selected for the IIM IPM '18

My friend had an interview at IIM Rohtak. She was a commerce student with 95% in Class 10th and 93.8% in Class 12. It was an online interview conducted by two male panelists.

The interview started with her speaking about herself, her background, school achievements, extracurriculars, and hobbies. She told them her hobby was reading and they asked her about her recent reads. They asked her the following questions

  1. What is more important to you: Money or Happiness?
  2. As a student of economics, consider a situation where all the countries have the same currency. Explain the advantages and disadvantages of the situation?
  3. What if there is a different currency in every state of India. Explain the consequences.
  4. Name any two women entrepreneurs?
  5. Who is the governor of MP?
  6. Who is the Chief Justice of India?

Apart from the last question she was able to answer all and thankfully was able to convert the call.

The truth is IPM interviews are of Class 12 pass outs so are just limited to their knowledge. They mainly test your academic questions and basic knowledge of current issues. All you need to do is be confident and succeed!

What are the differences between an older IIM like Indore and Kozhikode and a newer IIM like Ranchi, Rohtak, or Trichy?

PS
Prateek Sagar Posted On : January 10th, 2023
studied MBA in Marketing at Indian Institutes of Management (2020)

The first-generation IIMs clearly have many advantages over the second and third-generation IIMs. Some major differences include

  • Infrastructure: Thenodler IIMs have their own permanent campuses whereas most of the newer IIMs either function through a temporary campus or have a permanent campus that is not at par with the older IIMs.
  • Faculty: The older IIMs have better experienced and learned faculty than the newer ones. Also, the visiting faculty is much better at these IIMs. The student and faculty strengths are therefore strong here.
  • Placements: The older IIMs have long-standing ties with corporate firms and top companies excelling in the placements scenario and leaving behind the new IIMs.
  • Corporate Exposure: The exposure at older IIMs is better than that of newer IIMs due to their early establishment.

Will the new upcoming IIMs like (Rohtak, Ranchi, Trichy) overtake the SPJIMR in a few years?

PG

PGDM from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (Graduated 2018)

Except for IIM Rohtak, the new upcoming IIMs like Trichy and Ranchi face tough competition with SP Jain. They are almost in the same league based on certain parameters and are bound to overtake SP Jain in the future. Let’s discuss some of these parameters

  1. Students profile: IIM Trichy takes in students with a slightly higher CAT score than SP Jain thereby the quality of the batch is better.
  2. Faculty: The faculty of IIM Trichy is comparable with SP Jain in many areas.
  3. Placements: Although the placements at SP Jain are better than these new IIMs, they have been stagnant for the past few years. Moreover, the placements at IIM Trichy and Ranchi are getting better every year.
  4. Growth potential: SP Jain has a decent growth potential but not more than the new IIMs. Their potential looks more promising.
  5. Alumni base: SP Jain has an upper hand in this aspect due to its early establishment.
  6. Location: SP Jain is at a better location than the new IIMs and they might suffer because of this. Yet some consider the city of Trichy not too far away from Mumbai and the disadvantage does not seem that huge.

All in all, there are high chances of the new IIMs taking over SP Jain anytime in the near future.

Is it worthwhile doing an FPM course at the IIM in Rohtak

DS
Debmalya Sen Posted On : January 10th, 2023
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Rohtak (Graduated 2022)

The answer to this question is subjective as it depends solely on your career inclinations, your purpose of pursuing FPM, and what you plan to do after it. It is best suitable

  • If you want to pursue research in management
  • If you want to enter academics and pursue a career in teaching/research faculty

For the above two cases, the FPM course is the best option. Despite being a new course, it is taught by the best faculty and through excellent pedagogy. This course equals a Ph.D. and can open doors to teaching at IIMs. The job is decent with high pay. All you need to do is invest your time and effort in the course.

The only drawback of this course is that there are no placement opportunities for FPM students.

What's your take on the withdrawal of IIM Rohtak from CAP?

AJ
Anu Jain Posted On : January 10th, 2023
Lives in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India

I think it is a good tactical decision for IIM Rohtak to improve its worth and image among the second-generation IIMs.

Despite being younger than IIM Shillong it is considered among the second-generation IIMs because it has been a part of CAP. If you look at the current situation, IIM Shillong functions from a temporary campus and yet has its own WAT-PI process. On the other hand, IIM Rohtak has its own permanent campus but lacks its own WAT-PI process. Now its withdrawal from CAP will enable it to stand out from the second-generation IIMs.

From the student's perspective, this strategy has increased their chances of getting selected as now if they fail to perform well in CAP, they can rely on Rohtak's own WAT-PI process and vice-versa.

Which certification course is the best for project management, IIM Rohtak or Six Sigma Green Belt from Indian Statistical Institute?

SR
Swanand Ranade Posted On : January 10th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Indore

Both the certification courses PMP and SSGB fall under the Operations domain yet are very different in reality.

PMP: This course facilitates handling and delivering projects efficiently and quickly. If you are interested in Project Management, the best option is the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification which is affiliated with Project Management Institute, PMI, USA. It

also provides PDUs.

SSBM: This course facilitates proper optimization of business processes, minimizing waste and time wastage. If you are interested in the Six Sigma Green Belt (SSGB), then Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) Kolkata is the best option available. Some even think ISI Pune is good yet I will recommend you to go for Kolkata itself.

Should I join IIM Rohtak IPM?

MS
Manisha Singh Posted On : January 10th, 2023
Studies Integrated Program in Management, IIM Rohtak at Indian Institute of Management Rohtak (Expected 2024)

The IPM program of IIM Rohtak is not at par with the PGP program and therefore I will suggest that you should go for it only if you have no better options. The reasons why I am against this program so much are

  • It is one of the most expensive Undergraduate courses in India and the final placements are not worth the huge fees.
  • The course is relatively new so they are still experimenting with the curriculum and pedagogy decreasing its credibility.
  • Despite stretching over 200 Acres, the IIM Rohtak’s campus is partially not completed.
  • The ROI is extremely low
  • There is no mess facility adding to the already extravagant fees of the institute.
  • The faculty is below average. To compensate for this they hold guest lectures.

Considering all the above points, I will recommend you to take up an Undergraduate course from any college and then go for an MBA from a top B School. By doing IPM you merely will be wasting 5 years and over 30 Lakhs.

Comparing IIM Indore’s program to IIM Rohtak, there is a simple conclusion- IIM Indore is better than IIM Rohtak in almost every aspect.

Similarly, IIM Indore's IPM course is better in every case scenario. This is because of

At IIM Rohtak, it’s the students that are the driving forces of the campus. They are the ones who initiate clubs and committees. Some famous clubs and committees of IIM Rohtak are

Entrepreneurship and Innovation Council: This council aims at creating a community that is self-reliant and instills an attitude of being a job creator instead of a job seeker. It holds talks, organizes meets, and launched its own website to do so.

Is IPM IIM Rohtak worth it?

AS
Arun Sharma Posted On : January 9th, 2023
MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (Graduated 2020)

IIM Rohtak is a very newly established IIM that has yet to make its place in the IIM family. Because of its recent establishment people deem it not worthy of the IIM tag. But in reality, it’s gradually picking up pace and by the time its first batch will graduate (2024), it will have climbed the ladder higher.

People think the IPM program offered by IIM Rohtak is a backdoor for people who want to escape the CAT exam. In reality, most of the students plan to give CAT or GMAT or both at the end of their third year.

Even if one compares Rohtak and Indore, we can clearly see that Rohtak is way ahead of Indore. The first batch placements of Rohtak are better than Indore.

Some consider the lack of connectivity and cost also a reason why Rohtak is not worth it. But let me shed some light on this matter. Rohtak is just 70 km away from Delhi. The International airport is just an hour or two 's drive from the campus. So the connectivity issue is resolved here. As far as the cost is considered, one should not underestimate the 5 years he will be spending at an IIM campus with top-notch facilities and the most learned faculty and brilliant peers. All the investment is worth it. The final decision is yours to make but does remember that IIM Rohtak will have climbed the ladder in just a few years.
