I would like to join ISB (Indian School of Business) Hyderabad for a business analytics course. Is it good? Can I get a good job opportunity through this course?

My answer is based on my sister’s comparison therefore is brutally honest and objective. Some people might still be praising the Business Analytics course but trust me it’s their see efforts to increase its market value only.

I personally am here to convince you against the Business Analytics course. My sister was a student in the same program and even after relentless efforts for 1.5 years, the results were nowhere near expectations. In Fact, she suffered throughout the course and her career was affected a lot in the process. The following points strongly support my opinion and might convince you of the same

Poor quality and substandard faculty who keep changing their rules

  • The topics are covered very vaguely and no in-depth insight is offered. An entire topic is covered in 5 lectures that are technically just 10 hours.
  • The assignments are not evaluated properly and you don’t receive any feedback from the professors that might encourage you to do better
  • No placement assistance is offered to students in ISB Hyderabad
  • The batch size is ever-increasing and has made ISB Hyderabad a money-marking Institute only.
  • You don’t get to choose one area of Analytics that you want to specialize in and have to study irrelevant subjects that might be of no use to you in the future
  • Despite the fees and everything, it’s just a Certificate program and not a degree or diploma
  • The Certificate of Business Analytics is not approved by the Government of India and has little value officially

If you are really keen to pursue your career in Business Analytics, choose one area in analytics you want to specialize in and pursue that specific area only. For instance, you can choose a Big data or Machine Learning course and go through their concepts and look for jobs and internships in that area specifically. This is a faster and much more focused way rather than joining the CBA program.

Can I start my graduation at IGNOU on my 2nd year if I completed my 1st year at another college? Can I do both BSc and another stream degree at IGNOU?

RM
Ram Ratan Mishra Posted On : November 3rd, 2022
BA economics from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

You certainly can. Credit transfer is available through IGNOU.

Credit transfer refers to allowing a student from another university to enroll in IGNOU to complete an equivalent degree based on credit transfer from that university. As a result, the student did not appear in the exam for that course, which was found to be equivalent to and for which appropriate credit was deemed to have been obtained for the purpose of fulfilling the IGNOU requirements for awarding a degree.

Of course, there are some ground rules. You can find it in the IGNOU prospectus or program guide. You can do both at the same time, one with a regular duration and the other with a certificate program. It would, however, be too difficult for you.

What do you have to say to a student who just got into IIM Indore's IPM program?

PS
Prakhar Sahu Posted On : January 2nd, 2023
Management Student at IIM Indore, Mumbai Campus

My friend is a senior at IIM Indore for the same course. As a senior, he has the following pieces of advice and recommendations for his juniors.

  • Spend quality time with your family and friends before joining. Do things you have been willing to do for a long time but couldn't. This is because once you begin your hectic life here, you won't get time for anything else.
  • Refrain from being a part of any clubs and fests in the initial year. Rather focus more on academics.
  • Your peers will be from diverse backgrounds. Some may find it difficult to interact with them. It's okay if you don't befriend them just don't look down on anyone. Everyone here is a genius who has made it into an IIM after many struggles. On the brighter side, peers from all over the country add to the experience and fun.
  • Try to make the most out of the library of the institution. You have a prior subscription included in your fees so you are free to explore the huge variety of books here.
  • Read the IPM Manual given in the orientation thoroughly.
  • Inculcate some extra skills like Excel or typing that might come handy in the future.
  • Don't hesitate from approaching the professors for any kind of doubts. They are very humble and cooperative.
  • Seek help from our seniors as they are more than ready to help in any situation.
  • Last and most important, learn basic E-mail writing etiquette before the actual program begins. This will save you from embarrassing yourself in the future.

All these points will help you avoid some major blunders committed by seniors. But remember everyone makes mistakes in their college life. What matters is how you tackle it and what you learn from it.

How is the operation research MSc and PhD dual degree in IIT Bombay?

AB
Advaith Bhaskar Posted On : March 21st, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India (2000–present)

The course Operations Research offered at IIT Bombay is an integrated Ph.D. course.

Duration: The course duration is 6 years, while the minimum is 5 years. It depends on how much time you take to complete your PhD. You can even extend it more than 6 years but won’t be receiving any stipend for the same. Another option is to opt out of an MSc degree after 3 years.

Compensation: Students are paid around INR 6000/- month for 2 years and then INR 25000 from third year.

Department: This course is offered by the IEOR( Industrial Engineering and Operations Research) department of IIT Bombay which is considered the best in India.

Courses: The courses offered are Industrial Engineering related and some pure operations research related. There are a large number of project courses since this is a research-oriented course. After successfully completing the first 3 years you get admission to a Ph.D. program provided that you qualify certain prerequisites.

Purpose of the course: The course targets students who are interested in research and stimulate them to pursue a career in Operations Research. Some students, however, instead sit for placements after the third year with an MSc degree and don’t go for Ph.D.

Placements: There is no use to mention placement as most of the small batch size opts out of placements to pursue PhD.

Suitability: The course is most suitable for those who are sure of kick-starting a career in research. You get to work on various projects under the guidance of great professors.

Selecting the best PhD advisor is very necessary to ensure a good career. The same professor then gives you a PhD in very less duration or even drags the time unnecessarily. The best part is that you don't need to clear any PhD entrance like UGC CSIR and can easily get a PhD admit with few formalities and end up with a doctorate degree in less than 6 years.

What is the value for part time PGDM in NMIMS Mumbai?

YS
Yasmeen S Posted On : February 28th, 2023
PGDM in Post Graduate Diploma in Management & Business Management, SVKM's NMIMS

Most part-time courses carry no real value other than adding the post-graduate tag. They have no worth in the corporate world irrespective of whichever reputed college you have chosen. NMIMS is one of the top reputed B Schools in India and has a big brand name.

  • The faculty is extremely talented and experienced
  • The placement scenario is pretty good except that part-time courses have no fixed statistics.
  • The fees are relatively high when compared to other B Schools of the same league
  • The curriculum is very rigorous and requires constant attendance and involvement. Being a part-time PGDM, you are probably a working professional and it becomes very difficult to balance work with studies.
  • The curriculum required you to submit assignments and give frequent exams. This might be difficult for working people.
  • Unfortunately there is quite a level of distinction between full-time PGDM students and part-time PGDM students as the former get the most attention from teachers.
  • The curriculum is rushed in order to get completed within 21 months imparting no real learning

I know a friend who chose NMIMS Executive MBA and paid hefty fees just for the brand name instead of doing the same course at a less popular B School. She regretted her decision and claimed the program to be a total waste of money and time. She said she could have done the same from another B School at half the cost. So part-time MBA itself is not that worthless, but paying a hefty sum merely for the brand name and postgraduate tag is illogical. You can do the same program at a much lesser cost than other B Schools.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of a PGP through IIM Kozhikode?

SL
Salman Liyakath Posted On : November 11th, 2022
PGDM In Finance and Strategy from Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (Graduated 2018)

Some major advantages and disadvantages of a PGP through IIM Kozhikode are:

Advantages

  • IIM Tag: IIM Kozhikode is the 5th best IIM. So the IIM title is enough for you to find a launch or start your own business.

  • Faculty: IIM Kozhikode has the most experienced faculty.

  • Peers: You will find people from diverse backgrounds and will stay highly motivated

  • Campus: The infrastructure of IIM Kozhikode is more like a resort than that of a B School

  • Campus Life is less stressful and you can enjoy your college days.

Disadvantage: Despite being the food capital of the state, Kozhikode has little to offer. The vegetarian options are also scanty.

These advantages and disadvantages might seem different from anyone else’s perspective.
