Is a branch upgradation possible from civil to CSE in MNNIT Allahabad? What are the requirements?
One of my friends switched from Civil to CSE at MNNIT Allahabad, a few years back. Here are some tips from his side-
- A 9.0+ cpi is required to switch to CSE.
- CSE has very limited vacancies (4-5 seats at most).
- Subjects like Chemistry, C Programming, etc. negatively affect the grades. Thus, very few students are able to score 9.0 cpi or above.
- In one of the semesters, you’ll have to study Mechanics. This subject is the best to score a high spi. The other semester contains Chemistry, and the subject faculty does not give good scores.
Basically, make a good study plan. Talk to your seniors, and strategize accordingly to score a high cpi in your first year. The rest depends upon your luck. But if everything goes well, a branch switch from Civil to CSE is totally possible at MNNIT Allahabad.
What is the fee structure of MNNIT Allahabad for electronics engineering?
Here is the fee-structure for B.Tech students of MNNIT Allahabad-
- Family Income > 5 LPA-
- Tuition fee = Rs. 62,500 per semester.
- Institute Fee = Rs. 10,000 per semester.
- User Charges= Rs. 9,000 per semester.
- At the time of admission, Rs. 5,000 is to be paid as Caution Deposit.
- Hostel Fee = Rs. 12,000 per semester.
This brings the total to Rs. 98,500 for sem1, and Rs. 93,500 per sem for the remaining semesters.
- Family Income 1 LPA - 5 LPA-
Other charges remain the same, but Tuition Fee is reduced to Rs. 20,833 per semester.
This brings the total to Rs. 56,833 for sem1, and Rs. 51,833 per sem for the remaining semesters.
- Family Income < 1 LPA OR SC/ST/PwD candidate-
Other charges remain the same, but Tuition Fee is completely exempted.
This brings the total to Rs. 36,000 for the first sem, and Rs. 31,000 per sem thereafter.
The Mess Fee is Rs. 20,000 per semester. For Day Scholars, the Hostel Fee is not applicable.

IIIT Allahabad IT is better than MNNIT Allahabad CSE. It has a great coding culture. Students start competitive coding from the first year itself. IIIT Allahabad students dominate all major competitive coding forums.
It has a great course curriculum. IIIT Allahabad offers a great study environment with excellent infrastructure and facilities. The central library has a repository of more than 50000 books. The library also has an e-media section.
IIIT Allahabad placements are great. According to the 2021 highlights, the average and highest CTC offered is around INR 21.85 LPA and INR 61.65 LPA.
What score is needed for MNNIT Allahabad?
The scores are subject to change per year for admission criteria. However, in a nutshell, your selection also depends upon the choice of the branch you have for a B.Tech course and in which category do you actually belong to.
For instance, my cousin’s brother is from the general category and had acquired 228 marks in JEE Mains 2015. Besides, he also had 94.4 percent of marks in his CBSE board examinations. His rank was 3828 and he got admission to the CSE branch. His 10+2 score affected his ranking.
However, currently, the 10+2 score does not matter that much for admission. A total of 180 and out of 360 will be a safe rank for taking admission. If you are applying for CSE, you need to work a little hard as the cutoff is more for the branch.

Should I join IIEST Shibpur or NIT Allahabad?
If you're considering NIT Allahabad and IIEST Shibpur for CS, ETC, or IT branches, it's worth noting that NIT Allahabad has better placement records than IIEST Shibpur. However, for Mechanical, Electrical, or other branches, the placements are almost the same in both places, and IIEST is growing and improving.
IIEST Shibpur has a better record of research and academics, while NIT Allahabad has better placements and the advantage of being an NIT.
The infrastructure of both institutions is comparable, and IIEST's ranking is increasing, while NIT Allahabad's remains stagnant. Still, many students choose colleges based on existing cutoffs and ratings, even if a better-performing institution exists.
For now, NIT Allahabad may be the better choice due to its NIT tag, but keep in mind that a tag doesn't guarantee success in the corporate world. Ultimately, placements depend on the skills and training of the students.
In terms of ranking, the order would be top NITs (such as Warangal, Trichy, Rourkela, and Suratkhal), followed by IIEST Shibpur and NITs like Durgapur, Allahabad, VNIT Nagpur, Surat, and Kurukshetra. Lower NITs such as Jamshedpur, Hamirpur, Agartala, Silchar, and Sikkim would come next, with NIT Uttarakhand, Goa, Mizoram, etc., bringing up the rear.

The straight answer is NO. MNNIT, Allahabad does not need a student body just like all leading IITs or even IIIT Allahabad. There are some merits of having a student body such as:-
- You can raise your concerns with the college administration more effectively and the student bodies will act as an interface between the students and the administration.
- It will be helpful in the smooth conduct of various fests and dependence on professors for permission will reduce.
However, there are many arguments against student bodies regarding their actual effectiveness:-
- They become a few CV points for certain students and no actual gain for normal students.
- The above point along with their better industry interface due to sponsorship hunting during fests leads to them gaining better placement offers than others, so not really helpful for average students.
- As for raising concerns, this can be done and has been going on with softer methods such as signature attaching with letters of concerns with varying degrees of success.
Student bodies are not absolutely necessary. They can provide a façade without any real gain for average students with power concentration is very people’s hands. MNNIT, Allahabad has been running smoothly for all these years by the administration and the professors and can also run like this for years to come.
