Should I study CSE at BITS Pilani or CSE at IIT (BHU)?

AJ
Ankit Joshi Posted On : May 2nd, 2022
BE Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, RV College of Engineering (2020)

You should choose IIT BHU CSE. It is among the top 7 IITs and offers better opportunities to students.

  • IIT BHU CSE fees are INR 5.33 Lakhs. While BITS Pilani charges INR 18.98 Lakhs for the CSE degree. If you join IIT BHU, you don’t need to spend a huge amount on your undergraduate degree. You can save that money for doing master's.
  • IIT tag offers many advantages. If you are going to apply to ivy league schools, having a degree from a reputed IIT will be a plus. IIT BHU professors are well-reputed and having LORs from them will get you into a good college.
  • IIT BHU has a huge alumni base and you will have much better networking opportunities.
  • It offers excellent placement opportunities for CSE students. IIT BHU CSE average package is INR 25 LPA.

These are some of the reasons that make IIT BHU a better choice compared to BITS Pilani.

Which is better: IIT BHU or BITS, Pilani ?

MS
Mayank Sharma Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.E. (Mechanical ) from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (2020)

Although both colleges are highly reputed, IIT BHU has a slight edge over BITS Pilani for the IIT tag. Also, for securing a place in IIT BHU one needs to qualify the JEE Advanced exam which is one of the toughest exams. On the contrary, BITS Pilani requires you to qualify BITSAT, which is comparatively easier than JEE Advance.

Admission and semester fees at IIT BHU is far less than BITS Pilani. This is because BITS Pilani is a private institute, while IIT BHU is a centrally funded institute. In addition to these factors, IIT BHU provides a number of courses to choose from which are not offered by other reputed universities. Some of such courses are Ceramic Engineering, Pharmaceutical Engineering, and Mining Engineering. Both these institutes offer experienced faculties from subject backgrounds. Also, if you aspire to go for higher studies in future, you should give precedence to IIT BHU over BITS Pilani, as having the hallmark of IIT offers a lot of opportunities.

BITS Pilani conducts 3 fests which are -BOSM, OASIS, APOGEE. IIT BHU, on the other hand, conducts SPARDHA, KASHI YATRA, TECHNEX. OASIS is one of the largest fests in the country.

Both IIT BHU and BITS, Pilani are good institutions and have their pros and cons, so choose according to your convenience.

Is the GATE rank compulsory for getting admission into the BITS despite only writing the BITS HD?

AC
Anwesha Chatterjee Posted On : February 2nd, 2021
M.E from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (2018)

If you want to take admission in M.E. or M.Pharm course which is offered by BITS then you need to undertake BITS HD exam and GATE is totally exempted and vice-versa. Hence, getting admission into BITS higher degree program, you have two ways: Either go for GATE or through BITS HD.

Although there are some pros to get through the gateway of GATE:

  1. Offer scholarship stipends of Rs 13,400. But you can also earn on campus by assisting in teaching irrespective of your admission pathway.
  2. Also, GATE is the most acceptable exam nationwide for getting admission into any higher degree technical course.
  3. GATE scores are acceptable by some foreign universities as well as Germany, Singapore, etc.
  4. You'll always have options to join big PSUs and conduct research work anywhere.
  5. Eligible for interviews in many prestigious govt and private organizations with handsome salaries.

It is not at all necessary for you to get a rank in the GATE exam, for getting into BITS despite writing BITS HD. Although few changes have been made that you should consider before applying. BITS has introduced a system from 2018-19 to reserved 50% of its seats for admission through GATE candidates and the rest of 50% seats are reserved for student's admission through BITS HD.
