What was ragging like at BITS Pilani when you joined the college for a bachelor's?

AS
Abanti Sen Posted On : July 15th, 2021
Ph.D from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (2017)

Although this perception exists among many students, this is not true. Also, at BITS everyone has to sign and submit an affidavit as per the UGC guidelines that he/she won't get involved in such activities. However, the best real-life experience can be described by someone who has studied there.

My cousin who is currently doing his Ph.D. from BITS is about to complete his 7 years on the campus, and here are his experiences regarding ragging.

  • Seniors interact with their juniors in a very healthy manner.
  • You will be having both formal and informal interactions with seniors. They introduce you to the BITS culture and you can ask any type of question without any hesitation.
  • As you will be joining various clubs from the first semester onwards, you have to adjust to new people and maintain interaction.
  • Although some seniors might ask you to introduce yourself with every sentence ending with Sir or Madam or sing a song, it doesn’t get to the extent of “ragging”. Rather, it paves a way for friendly interaction for the next 4-5 years of journey at BITS.

Overall, you won’t live with a fear or sadness of staying far away from family as you will be welcomed with so much love from the seniors. Even in the current situation, there are no instances of ragging because every student has the right to complain to SWD. Moreover, no one hardly gets time for ragging at BITS Pilani.

How has your life changed since graduating from BITS Pilani?

SD
Shruti Dasgupta Posted On : July 3rd, 2023
Student at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

Here are a few changes my sister felt since she graduated from BITS Pilani

  • She has got a mindset and brain superior to normal people and often finds it difficult to talk to them. So she finds it difficult to stay humble with all the knowledge she has.
  • Even after leaving BITS, she hasn’t lost her passion for learning and studying. While she was working she finished 6 MOOC courses between the time she left Pilani and joined her master's program.
  • She has stopped feeling insecure at all as she trusts her college and her hard work completely in shaping her career.
  • She has started working on many side projects
  • She gave more importance to education and attended classes regularly in her Masters

Lastly, she no more questions the credibility of BITS Pilani and its alumni.

Which is better for an Mtech, NITs or BITS Pilani?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : July 3rd, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

Comparing institutes is rather subjective because everyone considers different parameters. When talking about NITs vs BITS, only the top NITs are a good option for MTech while BITS is definitely an equally good option.

Here are a few common aspects you would like to consider

  • Fees: BITS has very high fees in comparison to NITs but the high fees the overall experience and knowledge you gain.
  • Academics: BITS Pilani is known for its top-notch education quality and exposure. Moreover, there are no restrictions, and students are given a certain level of freedom.
  • Placements: BITS Pilani placements are at par with IITs and NITs so you can rest assured in that regard as well.

BITS Pilani will help you grow as a person and even foster your extracurricular development.

Can an introvert survive at BITS Pilani?

HV
Harish Verma Posted On : July 29th, 2021
Studied at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani - Pilani Campus

Being an introvert has nothing to do with your studies, and let me tell you, a lot of the students from top-tier colleges are introverts.

You can focus on developing your English, but as far as practical schools and placements are concerned, this will help you. You can talk to your batch mates in Hindi as well but for your academic and career growth, knowing English is paramount.

A few people in my batch were introverts and shy and did not speak English but over the course of a few months, they have changed with the way they behave, languages they speak as well as their looks.

If you are willing to adapt to your environment, you will definitely be able to survive and finally, your overall success will depend on your hard work.

Which is best, BITS Pilani for CSE or NIT Trichy for CSE?

VS
Vaani Singh Posted On : March 24th, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India

If you are considering higher education, it is important to choose an institution that is best suited to your needs and goals. Among the top choices are the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and private institutions like BITS Pilani. While BITS Pilani is a great private institution, it is important to consider the factors that set NITs apart.

Here are some reasons why you should consider NITs as your first preference:

  • Lower fees: NITs are run by the Government of India, and as a result, their fees are lower compared to private institutions like BITS Pilani. This makes NITs a more affordable option for students who want quality education without incurring a large debt burden.
  • Edge over jobs: If you graduate from a government institution like NIT, you can get a good edge over jobs. NITs are well-respected and have a strong reputation in the industry, which can help you secure a good job after graduation.
  • Clubs and Activities: NITs have various clubs and societies that cater to students' interests and skills. These clubs provide a platform for students to explore their interests and enhance their skills, making them more well-rounded individuals.
  • Innovation: NITs are known for their focus on innovation and research. They provide students with ample opportunities to apply their knowledge and innovative ideas through various projects, internships, and research programs.
  • Institution of National Importance: NITs are institutions of national importance and are recognized as such by the government. This means that they receive significant funding and support, which translates into better infrastructure, facilities, and faculty.

In conclusion, while BITS Pilani is a good private institution, it is important to consider the advantages that NITs offer. With lower fees, a strong reputation, ample opportunities for innovation and research, and a range of clubs and activities, NITs are an excellent choice for students who want to pursue higher education in India.

Is BITS Pilani in the same level as some IITs?

NS
Navneet Singh Posted On : July 3rd, 2023
Studied at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

BITS Pilani can be easily compared to the top IITs and is even considered superior to many IITs. It’s a leading private technical institute that imparts top-quality education. Here are a few things that make BITS Pilani stand right next to the IITs

  • The no-reservation policy gives BITS Pilani an advantage over the IITs.
  • The zero attendance policy is another criterion that attracts engineering aspirants who want to experience freedom and academic flexibility. It also makes the students responsible for their actions.
  • The excellent bond juniors and seniors share makes this light and tranquil here. You will feel like you have made a family away from home.
  • The college ambiance is great away from the hustle and bustle of city life. You get to experience the tranquility of nature.

Other infrastructural facilities like the rock garden, the library, and the auditorium make BITS Pilani a great place to study!

Which is the most relaxed branch in BITS Pilani?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : July 3rd, 2023
Founder, NextBigWhat

My answer is only related to the BITS Pilani Goa campus as my knowledge is limited to the same. Here, the most relaxed and laid branch you will find is Mechanical.

The level of difficulty and workload of any branch depends on its lab sessions while the course difficulty is almost the same since BITS follows a relative grading system. Now, when it comes to mechanical, the lab sessions are pretty laid back. All you have to do is turn on the heater in the apparatus and just note down readings after every 10 minutes. Students spend this time gossiping and chilling around. Moreover, this is a group work and only one student is capable of doing such an easy task while others relax. Lab sessions of other branches are very hectic and often extended to 3-4 hours.

The Mechanical branch is good either way; if you are genuinely interested you will land a decent job in the core. If you are here just for chilling, you can relax and still get placed in some non-tech job.

How is the BITS Pilani campus and the hostel facility?

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : July 3rd, 2023

BITS Pilani has excellent accommodation and campus facilities making it worth the high fees it charges. Here are a few highlights of the hostels here.

  • There are 12 boys’ hostels in BITS Pilani with around 230 rooms each. They are known as Bhawans. Recently a new boys' hostel has also been constructed for the research scholars.
  • The girl's hostel complex is called the Meera Bhawan Complex.
  • The majority of the first-year students are allotted double occupancy rooms while some are allotted single rooms.
  • The hostel buildings may look old but in reality, the hostels are maintained quite well and are cool and clean.
  • There is one mess in 2 Bhawana usually and the girls' hostel has its own mess. Additionally, there are quite a few eateries inside the campus that serve delicacies.
  • A typical room has all basic amenities like a fan, a bed, a study table, a chair, and an almirah.
  • Every wing has its own adequate number of bathrooms, washrooms, etc.
  • Every room has a LAN connection and internet facilities are available 24/7.
  • There are 2 common rooms, two grounds within the premises or sports like volleyball and badminton.

Overall, BITS Pilani hostels are one of a kind and provide top-notch facilities and amazing living conditions.
