Comparing the average CTC of IIT Delhi and IIM Ahmedabad we get:
Average CTC of IIT Delhi: INR 16 LPA
Average CTC of IIM Ahmedabad: INR 26 LPA
One gets into IIM Ahmedabad after gaining 2.5 years of work experience. Adding the 2 year PGP Program, he is likely to start earning after 4.5 years. Around this time, candidates of both IIM Ahmedabad and IIT Delhi will be earning almost the same amount.
The only advantage an IIM Ahmedabad student will have is its tag which will add value in the long run.
My friend is an NIT Jalandhar pass out so I can speak about that only. She regretted getting admission into NIT Jalandhar. She faced some serious problems
Faculty: The professors were below average in their teaching methods. Most lacked the basic knowledge and just read out from books. Moreover, if you don’t win their favor you get fewer marks in assignments. This affects your overall CGPA.
Crowd: It will be hard to find a diverse crowd here as most of the students hail from Punjab itself. Even their language is common within the campus.
Placements: Talking specifically about Mechanical Engineering placements, the condition is pretty bad. The average package this year was INR 7.87 LPA while the highest CTC was just INR 8.4 LPA.
Hostels: The first and second-year hostels do not have Wi-Fi connections which is a major drawback. Hostels 3-7 are also averagely built. Mega Hostels have better facilities in comparison to other hostels at NIT Jalandhar.
These are some shortcomings of NIT Jalandhar which might affect your overall experience. You can research the same for NIT Rourkela and make a comparison. In case NIT Rourkela is even worse, then NIT Jalandhar is your last option.
Some books I’d highly recommend to first-year B.Tech. students at NIT Jalandhar are:
For basic electrical - Fundamentals of electric circuits, Kothari.
Millman or Boylestad or NN Bhargava (basic electronics
Amit Lal's videos on youtube are enough for Management principles
B.S. Grewal (Mathematics)
Let us C (Computer Programming).
Manas Patnaik videos are enough for engineering graphics
You will receive a pdf from your professor for Manufacture process
general knowledge is enough, no need to study Environmental ethics
Schwam series and data structures with C for Data Structures.
These books along with self-study and class notes will be more than enough for a B.Tech. student in the first year.
The first-year fees of a B.Tech. student at NIT Jalandhar is INR 1.64 Lakhs whereas the total fee is INR 6.76 Lakhs.
Hostel Fees
Fee Waiver:
NIT Jalandhar provides a 100% Tuition Fee waiver for SC/ST/PH students.
Full remission of the Tuition Fee for General & OBC students whose family income is less than Rs.1 lakh per annum.
Remission of 2/3rd of the Tuition Fee for General & OBC students whose family income is between Rs.1 lakh to Rs.5 lakh per annum.
Firstly no, formal wear is not necessary for classes in IIM Calcutta.
Secondly, qualifying mathematics tests for a B.Tech. student is not at all difficult. Just keep your basis strong and you are good to go.
If you fail to clear your backlog after the 4th year of B.Tech. In AKTU, you will have to reappear for the backlog exams.
The major drawback is that the additional time you take to clear backlog exams will be mentioned in your Degree. For instance you took a year more to clear your backlog, your degree will show 5 years instead of 4.
This will affect you mr job prospects and career in the future so try your best to clear your backlog before the 4th year itself.
Your question has a lot of variables to consider. This answer is unbiased as it can be. You should take a job after B.Tech. if you don’t have a strong resume. MBA is a professional course and welcomes experienced students who are well versed in academic performance, extra-curricular, and leadership/management experience.
If you lack in these areas my suggestion would be to upgrade your CV with skills and experience and give CAT another shot.
Keep in mind that your salary does not matter. Your achievements, crisis management and leadership skills you acquire while at work are more important. So if you are eyeing a high-end consulting job, take another go at CAT after gaining some more experience.
Some people tend to lose the motivation to prepare for CAT over the years. They can join IIM Kozhikode even as freshers.
If you want to top B.Tech. from AKTU, adopt consistency and hard work. Rather than focusing on theory parts, pay more attention to numerical questions. The listed below points will help you further in getting a good rank:
Be a regular and disciplined student. Bond with your teachers and attend classes regularly.
The answer to every question should be more than 2 paragraphs.
Make sure your answer sheet is neat and organized.
Use two inks. A different one for the headings and important parts.
Make the best use of your writing skills. This applies even if you don’t know the exact answer.
These tips will prove to help get good marks in B.Tech.
The average percentage scored by most BTech students at AKTU/UPTU colleges is 65-70%. This can be obtained with minimal effort as marks are literally distributed here. The internal marks depend on the student's image and not his performance.
Most of the heads of Departments are just puppets controlled by management. The faculty here is usually from a C-grade engineering college. Also, the lowest form of practice here is to earn more money through evaluation. This dishonesty on the part of the faculty produces disqualified engineers. The Centre Superintendent does not care about checking the eligibility of a faculty.
So you don’t actually need to worry about average marks because marks are awarded for free at AKTU/UPTU colleges.
