What is the total fee strucure at NIT Raipur for a btech 2017-2021 with a family income less than 1 lakh?

RS
Raghav Sharma Posted On : April 8th, 2021
B.Tech Information Technology & Computer Science, National Institutes of Technology (2020)

This rule has been in motion since 2016 and applies to students of both the OBC category and General. The rule did not apply to students who were from 2014 and 2015.

The fee structure for NIT Raipur and any other IIT according to MHRD are as follows:

  • In case your family income is less than 1,00,000, you will get full remission of tuition fees. IIT tuition fees are around 2 lakhs now and the same for NITs is around 1.25 lakhs.
  • If your family income is between 1 lakh to 5 lakhs, then you will have to pay a third of the fee of the IITs and NITs.
  • Full tuition fees have to be paid in case the salary of the family is more than 5 lakhs.
  • NITs have their own mess fees, hostel, and extra fees. They will amount roughly to 65,000 to 75,000 rupees.

Bank loans also help in gaining admission to the aforementioned colleges.

Which is better, IIIT Raipur or NIT Raipur?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : September 9th, 2023

I am assuming you wish to study B.Tech CSE/IT from either of the two.

IT at NIT Raipur is a good branch with a good placement record. However, its faculty and curriculum are not up to the mark. The placements are better in CSE as compared to IT.

On the other hand, IIIT Naya Raipur is a new college. So its alumni base is yet to develop. But it has a good placement record for CSE. The median salary ( for B.Tech and M.Tech CSE) stood at INR 15 LPA during 2022 placement season. The Infrastructure of IIIT Naya Raipur is much better. It is newly built and modern. Also, its curriculum contains the latest topics, and is in line with the syllabus of top IIITs.

Thus, IIIT Naya Raipur is a good choice for B.Tech CSE. But you can also choose IT/CSE at NIT Raipur.

Which is better, IIIT Naya Raipur, IIIT Lucknow or NIT Raipur (CS/IT)?

LC
Lipika Chakraborty Posted On : March 22nd, 2021
B.Tech Information Technology, National Institute of Technology, Raipur (2021)

The following answer to this question will enlist some facts to the students. Among the IIITs, as mentioned above, are completely new, so they still not have alumni networks.

The course offered by these institutes is the best if you want to learn or do research in the future. But if placements are considered, IIIT Lucknow and IIIT Naya Raipur are still lagging far behind than NIT Raipur, a well-established institute among the two IIITs.

NIT Raipur has an infinite alumni network. Companies like Oracle, Microsoft, Amazon make a regular visit to complete their recruitment process with CTCs of 8+ LPA, specifically for the CS and IT students.

The biggest cons of NIT Raipur is its Hostel, as only 30% of students here take hostel accommodation, and the rest 70% find PGs, rent houses, or flats for their accommodation.

Another disadvantage of this institute is the outdated syllabus of NIT Raipur, along with the grading techniques.

Therefore the choice is obvious. If a student is interested in carrying on higher studies, they can go for IIIT Naya Raipur. It is well-established and has a permanent campus. But, IIIT Lucknow is carrying out its administration as a temporary campus.

Besides, if you want placement immediately after completing your studies, you must choose NIT Raipur.

What about NIT Raipur for an M.Tech in VLSI? Is it worth doing an M.Tech from NIT Raipur?

AS
Aditi Sukla Posted On : August 30th, 2022
B.Tech in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Raipur

NIT Raipur isn’t a good option for an MTech in VLSI. It is a new branch and only a few branches have been through placements. According to NIT Raipur placement highlights, the placement rate isn’t that good for M.Tech VLSI. The majority of the students get non-core placements. Only around 4-5 students get core jobs.

It is a good option, in terms of research. Students of MTech VLSI have good research publications. The department also has decent facilities and technology to carry out research work.

What should I carry to NIT Raipur for the first time while going to a hostel?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : September 9th, 2023

Most of the items can be bought from Raipur itself. But I am listing down all the things you will require at the hostel so that you bring most of the items from your home itself. This will save you some time and multiple trips to the market-

  • Important items- Documents (Keep the original documents with 2 photocopies of each), ID proof (Aadhar).
  • Daily Requirements-  A.Stationary- Two black & two blue pens, tape, scissor, wrist watch.B. Hygiene Products- comb, nail cutter, soap, facewash, handwash, deo, shampoo, toothpaste, shaving kit, detergent. C. For cooking or snacking- spoon, electric kettle, some homemade snacks.
  • Other requirements- hanger, extension board, two locks with keys, first aid kit with some basic medicines for fever and cold, dusting cloth, umbrella, two pillow covers, two bedsheets, at least one formal shirt-pant, shoes and a pair of slippers, belt, two towels.

Mattress and pillows can be bought in Raipur itself. Chances are that you will miss out on these items in a hurry, so I am mentioning them as well- T-shirts and shirts, jeans and chinos, socks, pen drive and laptop.

These are a few things that you should carry for your hostel at NIT Raipur.

Is attendance in NIT Raipur important?

KS
Kabita Singh Posted On : March 19th, 2021
M.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee

For a student who is actually interested in academics, attending lectures and lab classes is necessary. In NIT Raipur, the institute imposes punishment to students with very little attendance in classes sometimes.

  • In NIT Raipur, you are advised to attend as many classes as possible. For students attending maximum classes, there is plenty of time for activities and preparations, and time can be managed easily.
  • For students pursuing further studies in related academic streams, classes are of absolute importance. Any content missed can be a problem in the future.
  • You should try to maintain at least 50% attendance and an overall score of over 50%. An attendance percent of below 50 can lead to punishment or penalties.
  • There is no advantage of having a low attendance percentage. Students missing a lot of classes feel a lot of stress in the last few months of the semester, and also remain scared of action from the institute for low attendance.
  • For TA, attendance is considered to be the most important aspect.

Therefore, it can be concluded that having an attendance of over 50% is extremely necessary.

What should be my branch preference list in NIT Raipur?

DC
Deepak Choudhary Posted On : March 19th, 2021
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Raipur

You should make your branch preference list based on your own interests. Considering the fact that most students are concerned about good placement after the completion of the course, here is an order of preference according to such criteria for NIT Raipur.

  1. Computer Science and Engineering.
  2. Information Technology.
  3. Mechanical Engineering/ Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering.
  4. Mining Engineering.
  5. Electrical Engineering.
  6. Civil Engineering.
  7. Chemical Engineering.
  8. BioMedical Engineering/ Biotechnology/ Metallurgy.

Discussed below are a few things that you need to keep in mind while preferring a branch.

  • The placement scenario is different every year, according to the companies visiting for placement.
  • The above order is suitable for you if you are interested in software company jobs. If you have an interest in core-sector jobs, the list will be different.
  • For any department, the placement depends upon your capabilities. Therefore, choosing a branch you are interested in will be better.
  • For students who are interested in CAT or GRE, the reverse of the above order is suitable, as it involves the need for quality time to study for these kinds of competitive exams. For GATE aspirants, it becomes subjective, depending upon the candidate’s branch of interest.

This order of precedence may not seem suitable to some students, and it is entirely based on a personal choice. The above highlights should be considered while selecting among several branches, in institutes like NIT Raipur.

  4. You need to know Database.
  5. You need to have conceptual knowledge of operating systems.

How is mining engineering at NIT Raipur? Is it worth joining?

AM
Arpit Mukherjee Posted On : September 9th, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology, Raipur

I am a student of Mining at NIT Raipur. Based on my experiences, I will share some pros and cons of this branch at my college-

Cons-

  1. The curriculum is outdated.
  2. The faculty for mining isn’t good, barring very few teachers. You’ll have to rely solely on self study. Also, textbooks aren’t available for most subjects, so you’ll have to study from the ppts/pdfs provided by teachers.
  3. Campus placement is very low in core jobs.
  4. The college has poor infrastructure. It has poor sports facilities, and limited accommodation in hostels and the college auditorium.
  5.  Most mining students don’t have any interest in their branch. Their aim is to crack the CAT/UPSC exam.

Pros-

  1. Getting up to 40-50% marks in end semester exams isn’t really difficult. It can be achieved by studying for just 2 days before each exam.
  2. You’ll get ample time to participate in college fest, and to explore your interests.

B.Tech Mining Engineering from NIT Raipur is the right choice if you wish to graduate with minimal efforts. Otherwise, I won’t suggest this branch at my college.

Is NIT Raipur better than NIT Silchar?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : September 13th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

Here are various factors on which one can compare these two institutions-

  • Placements- NIT Raipur offers better placements for CSE/IT/core branches. This is because of its advantageous location. It is located near IIT Bhilai, increasing its chances of being visited by good companies.
  • Connectivity- As compared to Silchar, Raipur is better connected to the rest of the country.
  • Campus- NIT Silchar has a lush green campus. NIT Raipur lags behind in terms of campus facilities and hostel accommodation. This is because it was built much before.
  • Ranking- As per the NIRF 2023 Engineering rankings, NIT Raipur stands at 70th position. On the other hand, NIT Silchar stands at 40th position. This can be attributed to NIT Silchar’s better campus and hostel facilities.

Both the colleges have their own strengths and weaknesses. You should choose based on your own priorities. Also, the choice should be based on what branch you are getting at both.
