Is the NMIMS Bsc Finance degree worth the money?

PN
Priyam Naskar Posted On : May 25th, 2021
B.Sc Finance at SVKM's NMIMS (2018)

One of my friends pursued his B.Sc in Finance from NMIMS. Based on his input, I might be able to help you with your question.

  • All the demands and requirements of any corporation are assimilated into the curriculum.
  • The syllabus includes major subjects like Business Analytics (SAS Software), Alternative Investment Markets, Operation Research, Debt Markets, Financial Reporting Standards, or even Corporate Finance.
  • Theseare exclusive to NMIMS B.Sc. It can not be seen or found in any other syllabus within India.
  • Mumbai being the financial capital of the country provides us with better industrial exposure.

If you have any misconception about having fun while you are here, drop it already. As at NMIMS you probably would not have time to do so. Just so you are fit for corporate culture, they train you in such a way that you don't face any problem in the future.

Since you have an inclination towards Finance, you would realize that everything you had endured was worth it in the end. And if the situation is the opposite, you'd be left far, far behind in the Finance race pulverizing yourself under constant pressure.

How do I prepare for the CDPI in NMIMS, Mumbai? Will I get admission into NMIMS, Bangalore if my Mumbai CDPI does not go well?

PR
Prasanth Reddy Posted On : February 28th, 2023
former Placement Executive at SVKM's NMIMS (2017-2019)

Preparing for the CD PI round is a crucial part because your chances of admission depend on them largely. My answer entails the tips one must adhere to before and during the Case Discussion round.

Before Case Discussion

Be well versed in current affairs, general knowledge and industry trends.

Prepare arguments on some specific topics including both sides of the argument

Prepare concise but concrete points

Mock discussions are the most precise way to prepare for CD

Analyze your own performance relentlessly and keep improving

During Case Discussions

  • During the initial 15 minutes, deliver 2-3 strong points
  • Present the problem in a crisp manner
  • Support your points with real-life examples or that from current affairs. Supporting your own or even others' points through reasoning and examples will get you free points
  • Summarize all the good points given by the others on a sheet of paper to give a nice ending note
  • Give chance to the silent speakers this might impress the panelists
  • Add recommendations and support it with relevant information

Personal Interview

  • Know about yourself like your abilities, strengths, and weaknesses and present it in a good manner
  • Practice the interview with someone and receive feedbacks
  • You should prepare on personal information, education background, work experiences, hobbies, interests, future plans, and current affairs.

Mock CD and PI are extremely important as the advice and feedback received will increase your performance and confidence tremendously.

Coming to the second part of your question, Both colleges have different merit lists. If you don't do well in NM Mumbai rounds, you still stand a chance to convert your NM Bangalore/Hyderabad call, provided you’ve applied for a PGDM course as well.

Narsee Monjee Institute of Management and Higher Studies is a deemed University. They tend to meet the growing demand for young managers. One of my cousins graduated from NMIMS and here are some of the details I gathered from him.

  • It is the first business school in India to be accredited with a 5-star rating by the UGC-sponsored NAAC.
  • The University provides all the necessary facilities like a canteen, sports facilities, library, and hostel facilities.
  • NMIMS offers fourteen courses including diploma programs of 1 year and post-graduate diplomas of 2 years.

Sheetal Jain Posted On : July 9th, 2021
B.Com(Hons.) from SVKM's NMIMS (2019)

BBA from all of these institutes, Nirma University, Symbiosis, and NMIMS is good. It now depends on whether you are willing to go for an MBA immediately after your graduation or not.

If you want to do an MBA and not want to get into giving entrances again, then go for Nirma, it is a decent pick. If you feel you can study in the 2nd and 3rd year of your graduation for MBA entrance exams. Then go for BBA from NMIMS or Symbiosis.

Is life at NMIMS Mumbai boring and hectic for a BTech student?

SK
Sumedh Kashyap Posted On : March 14th, 2023
BTech. in Civil Engineering, NMIMS (Graduated 2019)

If you are a B.Tech student at MPSTME, your day may vary from being too boring to too exciting depending on how you choose to spend it. If you have lectures from 9 am to 4 pm, your day could go like this:

9 am-11 am:

You may experience some delays when getting to the college gate due to traffic, local train travel, and fights for rickshaws. Once you arrive, you will need your id card to enter the premises, and it needs to be scanned on a biometric machine, which sometimes takes a few tries. The reception lobby has two lifts, one for odd floors and one for even floors, with long lines. The lift staff and canteen staff have priority in using the lifts. If you're running late, consider using the stairs to get to your classroom, but this can be exhausting if your classroom is on a higher floor.

When you reach your classroom, you may find that the door is locked or that the faculty won't let you enter because you're late. You may feel frustrated, but keep in mind that you're not alone as your classmates may have also been kicked out. This could be an opportunity to head to Prithvi Cafe, the nearest cafe, and hang out with friends.

11 am-1 pm:

If you manage to get into your next lecture, you may have to take a seat at the front if all other seats are taken. If you're interested in the subject and the faculty, you will pay full attention; otherwise, you may try to pass the time. You can't use your mobile while sitting at the front. After the lecture, you may check your mobile and find out that the 3-4 pm lecture is canceled, but you need to complete an assignment during the break in the 2-3 pm lecture. You'll need to plan your time accordingly and find a seat in the back.

During the next lecture, you may need to complete the assignment, which could be challenging since the websites that could help you might be blocked. However, you can still use Wikipedia and copy information to complete your assignment. After finishing your work, you may feel accomplished.

1 pm-2 pm:

It's break time, and you'll want to head to the canteen to catch a seat. The MPSTME canteen is one of the best canteens among the SVKM's colleges. Here, you can order food, share it, make fun of your friends, and meet friends from other streams, which can help you take a break from lectures and assignments.

2 pm-3 pm:

When you get back to the class, you may sit at the back and witness your classmates submit their assignments or make excuses for not completing them. Whether you choose to pay attention in the lecture is entirely up to you, but the faculty will try to make the lecture interesting. It's the most important part of the day, so try to stay focused.

Overall, it's essential to manage your time well and stay disciplined to make the most of your day.

Which college is better, the Narsee Monjee Mumbai or the Great Lakes Chennai?

AG
Akriti Gupta Posted On : July 11th, 2023
lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

The best college depends on your profile, work experience, and future prospects. Consider the following scenarios

  • If you have no or very little work experience and want to get a specialization in any other discipline than Systems or IT, then NMIMS Mumbai is the better choice for you.
  • If you have 2-3 years of work experience and want specialization in Systems and IT, NMIMS Mumbai would be the best choice. This is because, in GLIM, students with work experience and freshers are treated as equals.
  • But if you have a work experience of more than 3 years, then GLIM is the best choice for you.

So, make a choice that suits your needs the best!

How do the new HR programs of IIM Ranchi, NMIMS, and XIMB measure up to the established ones of XLRI, TISS, MDI and SCMHRD?

AA
Apoorv Ashutosh Posted On : January 11th, 2023
Former PhD Candidate at Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2017–2020)

The simple answer to your question is no, the new HR programs of IIM Ranchi, NMIMS, or XIMB are not at par with the established ones XLRI, TISS, MDI, and SCMHRD. The established programs especially that of XLRI are the epitome of HR programs. They cannot be compared to the new ones at any given level or parameter.

  • Faculty: The professors of XLRI are renowned throughout the industry for their competency. They specialize in almost every domain one can think of be it Law, Competency Modeling, Compensation, or Performance Management.
  • Peers: It’s the cream students who get the opportunity to get into a prestigious college like XLRI. You can see tough competition between the finest students at college. Every individual has a valuable opinion and stands to contradict others. Their thinking pattern is broad and given a case study, they look at all angles from accounting to finance to laws while proposing the solution. The situation at TISS is also quite similar.

Now one can say that the curriculum can be replicated and learned faculty can be sought to match the quality of the HR program at these institutes. But the truth is faculty and curriculum are the main but not the only factors that determine an institute's worth. Its own culture, ethics, and background have a lot to do with the programs it offers.

So one cannot match XLRIs programs no matter how much they try.
