Why is there an NRI quota in BIT Mesra?
The most important point to note is that NRI admissions at BIT Mesra are not done under the DASA scheme. As to why there is an NRI quota at BIT Mesra, many NRIs prefer to follow the Indian curriculum for their children’s schooling. - Admissions: Admissions to BIT Mesra are based on merit of JEE Mains through JOSAA's counseling, whereas VIT conducts its own entrance exam. The JEE Main rank is considered more prestigious than VITEEE.
- Faculty: BIT Mesra has a good faculty with experienced professors who are experts in their respective fields.
BIT Mesra is a better option than VIT for pursuing an engineering degree. With a higher selection ratio in JEE Advanced, good infrastructure, excellent placement records, and experienced faculty, BIT Mesra provides a better overall learning experience.
Should I study ECE at IIIT, Allahabad or IT at BIT, Mesra?
An ECE at IIIT, Allahabad is preferable to an IT at BIT, Mesra. Of course, the choice of the branch is subjective and should be chosen based on our own interests and preferences. But still, a degree at IIIT Allahabad is much more valuable than that of BIT Mesra.
The best thing about IIIT, Allahabad is its focus on research and thus will provide you the extra edge over other similar level candidates. The course structure is very focused and you will get subjects such as integrated robotics and many others. IIIT, Allahabad also offers the best facilities to hone your programming skills.

And then the fee structure of IIIT Allahabad is also much more affordable, 1.65 lakhs first-year fee to BIT Mesra’s 2.85 lakhs first-year fee, compared to BIT Mesra which gives the degree much more value with all the facilities, research opportunities, and placements it has to offer. Thus IIIT Allahabad is favored.
What is the best way to spend my last few days at BIT Mesra?
Well, getting into one of the top-notch colleges and then living there for 4 years with all your ups and downs and suddenly bidding goodbye is tough. So, the best way to spend your last few days in college is by giving those things a rest for a while and enjoy the very moment.
- You are living among certain people, some of them whom you might not meet ever in your life. You would get lots of time in your boring life after college to travel and do stuff even with some of these people.
- Make small trips with your friends. There are plenty of options.
- Read, write, paint, nurture your hobbies.
- Most of you probably already visited the river. If you have not already wake up in the morning and take a stroll to the river.
- Have a one-on-one conversation with the professor you admire. Tell them about your future plan, listen to what they have to say.
- There are many wonderful eateries nearby. Try breakfast buffet at Capitol hill, visit Incredible India bus near the AG Road.
- Exploit DC++ as much as you can.
- Continue what you have been doing for the last 3-4 years. Sit with your friends and have a chat. Start playing. You are never going to get these things again in your life. Sit in the sun, and play cricket/anything on the grounds in front of your hostel.
So these are the few things you can do and live right then in the very few days left of your graduation years.
Is BIT Mesra a good college to pursue engineering?
BIT Mesra is a renowned institution and is particularly known for its B.E. in CSE, ECE, Mech., IT and EEE. The B.Arch department is also good. One of my friends got admission into the Biotechnology department for her B.E. She worked really hard for a year, got a branch change into CSE, and ended up with a job offer from Microsoft. Several companies visit the campus during placements, and a hardworking student can easily get placed in a good company.
The campus is quite big. You will get a single room in the boys' hostel after your first year. Night canteens operate in almost all the boys and girls hostels and remain open till 3-4 a.m. in the morning.
There are several clubs at BIT Mesra which you can join. Another great thing about BIT Mesra is the presence of DC++. It is a network repository. You and your peers can connect to it through a laptop and share content with one another. In this network, you will find all the movies, series, and video lectures.
BIT Mesra is a wonderful college and you won’t regret your decision of joining it for your B.Tech.
Which is better: IIIT Allahabad or BIT Mesra?
Both IIIT Allahabad and BIT Mesra are excellent institutes offering top-quality education in various branches of engineering. But specifically for CS, IIIT Allahabad seems to be a better option. Had I been in your place I would have chosen IIIT Allahabad considering my strong passion for IT and CS
- IIIT Allahabad is the best choice if you want to enter the IT field. It should be preferred over BIT Mesra if you are interested in CS/IT/ECE.
- If you have no specific interest in CS, choosing IIIT Allahabad may limit your opportunities, and choosing BIT Mesra is a wiser decision in that case.
- Location-wise, IIIT Allahabad fairs better than Mesra although you won't be able to enjoy much city life at either place.
Addressing the elephant in the room, the placement statistics of IIIT Allahabad are much better than BIT Mesra. Look at the table below

The average package for a mechanical engineering batch of 2019 was 7 LPA. A friend of mine considered the amount a good return on Investment and recommended BIT Mesra. In the 2019 placement season, about 63 mechanical engineering students bagged jobs in the campus recruitment program.

Which is better in terms of the syllabus, placements and college life: NSIT in ECE vs BIT Mesra in CSE?
My friend did his B.Tech ECE from NSIT. According to him, NSIT ECE is a better choice than BIT Mesra CSE. Here are the reasons for his preference for NSIT ECE-
- Location- NSIT graduates have greater access to major industries due to its closeness to cities like Noida and Gurugram. For CAT, GRE, GMAT, etc., Delhi has a good coaching center facility.
- Brand Value- The brand value of NSIT is greater than that of BIT Mesra.
- Faculty at NSIT - You will be taught by some of the best professors in the country at the NSIT ECE department. Their letter of recommendation will open numerous doors for you.
- Seniors at NSIT- The seniors at NSIT are very helpful. Some of your seniors working at top firms may even refer you for an internship/job interview.
- Classes are held regularly at NSIT- There is a 75% attendance criteria at NSIT. The teachers also come for the lectures regularly.
- Coding Culture at NSIT- The coding culture at NSIT is great and their coders make it to GSoC every year. Some of them are also ranked highly on sites like TopCoder and CodeChef.
- Placements- The placements at NSIT are better than BIT Mesra. ECE students from NSIT get placed in core electronics companies, tech, and non-tech firms. Some of these companies are- Texas Instruments, Airtel, KPMG, Bain, BCG, McKinsey, TCS, Maruti Suzuki, Expedia, Google, Uber, etc.
- The ECE course has been recently updated by NSIT as per the industry standards. You will get to choose among electives from the first year itself. The electives range from Finance to Sports.
- NSIT is the only Indian college to send delegations to the prestigious Harvard MUN.
Thus, I would suggest you choose NSIT ECE over BIT Mesra CSE.
Is BIT mesra a wifi enabled campus?
BITS Mesra is a large campus spread across 980 acres of land. So technically speaking, it is not practical to give access to the wifi on the whole campus. But it is easily available in the main building, library, and hostels. BIT Mesra is technologically advanced, which is also reflected in its internet connectivity.
Unlimited wifi with good internet speed is available so that you can take advantage of it for both academic purposes and personal use.
As a 3rd year CSE student of BIT, Mesra, what should one do to land a good internship program?
My brother closely followed the internship recruitments at BIT Mesra and here are his insights about the recruitment criteria of some of the major IT firms-
- Directi - To intern at Directi, you must be good in all the areas of CSE. You must be an excellent algorithm programmer with a good knowledge of technical concepts and a project to support the same. Very few candidates are able to clear the first onsite coding round during the placement process and 1-2 get selected for the internship program.
- Microsoft - Microsoft recruits students who are excellent at C, MS products and GeeksforGeeks. The multiple rounds during recruitment consist of- objective questions round, coding round, telephonic rounds, paper-pen coding round and interview. You must be good at C, must prepare well for Data Structures interview questions, and must have a good knowledge of technical topics. A good CGPA of 8-8.5+ definitely gives you an edge above the other students.
- Goldman Sachs - The first round consists of questions on numerical aptitude and technical understanding. Your understanding of C++ oops concepts/C++ output questions/Data structures/Complexity/OS/DBMS is tested. This round is followed by a GD round. Make sure to listen carefully to all the instructions provided during mock GD. The 3rd and 4th rounds are technical and HR rounds respectively. Mention only those areas as your strengths in your resume that you are actually good at and confident about. The questions for this round include- Math puzzles, OOPS concept in (C++/Java), Data structures /SQL queries/Open ended questions/C++ concepts[Constructor/destructor/Virtual functions]/ Java Concepts.
- Besides these, students also go for off campus internships at IIT BOMBAY, PlayEzio and other startups.
Thus, to grab an on campus/off campus internship during your 3rd year CSE from BIT Mesra, you need to work very hard and sharpen your technical knowledge and coding skills.
