University of Mysore (UoM) to Offer UG, PG Courses in Emerging Technology; Read Details Here


University of Mysore (UoM) has officially decided to offer courses in emerging technologies at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. These new courses will make a student an industry-ready professional in key sectors like IoT, Blockchain Technology, Agri Engineering and Robotics. 

As per reports, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has permitted a total of 68 colleges affiliated to the University of Mysore, to start these new emerging courses in order to make the engineering degree more efficient and attractive and make students industry-focused. 

Such courses will be offered both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The courses available for the undergraduate level are B.E in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence IoT, 3D Printing and Design, Agri Engineering, Cybersecurity and Blockchain Technology, etc. Simultaneously, the emerging courses to be offered at postgraduate level are M.Arch in specializations like Sustainable Human Habitat, Digital Heritage and Conservation, M.Tech in Defence Technology, MBA in Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Venture Development. 

SB Halbavi, Special Officer, academic section, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi, said that the emerging courses will be offered from this academic year 2021-22. He said that the colleges with NBA accreditation are only eligible to start these courses and around 68 colleges have been permitted to start the emerging courses. 

Earlier, VTU introduced Biology for Engineering Courses from the Academic Year 2021. The new course was launched for both first and second-year students to help them aspire to pursue engineering programmes under lateral entry. It is a part of the ‘ability enhancement courses’ under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. 

Meanwhile, one of the institutes for which AICTE has granted permission to start the courses is University of Mysore (UoM). The university will start the emerging courses in UG level in B.E with the following specializations, 

  • Civil Environmental Engineering
  • Artificial Intelligence and Data Science 
  • Computer Science and Design 
  • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning 
  • Biomedical and Robotic Engineering 

Hemanth Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, UoM said that the emerging courses can be called as new age courses, which will have job potentials in the upcoming years. 

Further, the courses are designed to cater the industry requirements and if students complete these courses, there will be a rise in employment opportunities. Meanwhile, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Robotics are emerging technologies, he added.
