The University Grants Commission (UGC) has officially recognised the Cuttack-based Madhusudan Law University as the UGC recognized university in the list of Universities.
Dharmendra Pradhan, the Union Education Minister announced on social media that the Madhusudan Law University will receive a Central grant from the UGC.
Expressing his happiness, the minister posted in his social media account stating that as per the section 2(f) of the UGC Act 1956, the Madhusudan Law University, Cuttack has been included in the list of Universities established and that the university will receive the central assistance shortly.
Further, the minister tweeted that the Madhusudan Law University, the eight decade-old institution named after Utkal Gourab Madhubabu is one of the best law colleges in the region and in line with NEP and the PM's vision, the central government is determined to transform the higher education landscape.

Earlier, in April 2021b,the state government notified the upgrading of the Madhusudan Law College, Cuttack as a new university named Madhusudan Law University at Cuttack and Professor Kamaljeet Singh was appointed as the Vice-chancellor of the University.

The Minister, Pradhan shares an official notification, which stated the rules and regulations, the university will have to ensure,
- No establishment of any off campus center or any study center beyond the university's territorial jurisdiction as mentioned in the Act and in no case beyond the territory of the state.
- Programmes shouldn't be offered through any franchising arrangements with the private universities/ institutions.
- Any off campus or study center started by the university or centers operating through franchises outside the state must be shut down immediately.
- The University shouldn't run any study centres through franchises.
- Without UGC's prior recognition, the university shouldn't commence the open and distance learning courses.
- The University can commence the MPhil and PhD programmes as per the provisions of UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Awards of MPhil/PhD Degrees) Regulations, 2016.
