PhD in Philosophy in the US without GRE: When Students Should not Submit the GRE Scores?

Many GRE candidates are unsure whether or not they should submit their GRE test scores when applying to institutions that will waive the GRE in 2023. Here's how to know when you shouldn't submit your standardised test results:

  • If you haven't studied for the exam and the deadline is close, you should concentrate on your essays, SOPs, and other aspects of the application.
  • If your exam result does not represent your achievements and potential, skip the test and use your essays to demonstrate your skills and talents.
  • The absence of GRE scores would not be viewed unfavourably by universities skipping the exam for the 2023 intake. As a result, a middling or low score may reflect adversely.

PhD in Philosophy in the US without GRE: Things to Put More Focus On

Academic History: Your GPA is the first thing a graduate admissions committee looks at. Most institutions typically require candidates to have a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale throughout their degree courses.

Resume: Universities will require an updated resume at the time of applying. In the resume add details such as awards, recognitions, community participation, projects you've worked on, professional experience and others.

SOP: Most graduate programmes will need you to submit a personal statement of 1-2 pages. This will let the school assess your academic aptitude as well as your writing and grammatical abilities. In terms of content, the institution will provide you with guidelines or specific questions to address in your SOP. You will also be required to provide a background of the academic and professional objectives that you want to achieve after enrolling in the programme.

LOR: You will be required to submit 2-3 letters of recommendation from academics and/or a prior employer to universities. If you ask someone to write you a letter of reference, be sure they want to and are familiar with your accomplishments and academic record. Before they begin working on the letter, provide them with adequate information about you, your career goals, information about the university, and so on.

Apart from this, candidates appearing in the GRE exam must note that the basic eligibility for GRE is to have a UG degree and a valid passport.
