OP Jindal Global University, ICRC Sign MoU to Collaborate on Academic Projects and Provide Joint Degree Programs; Read Details Here

OP Jindal Global University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to raise awareness and create new academic programs in Humanitarian Action and International Humanitarian Law (IHL).

As a result of this agreement, OP Jindal Global University and ICRC will work closely to promote humanitarian studies and International Humanitarian Law (IHL).

The MoU's main focus is to enhance understanding of Humanitarian Studies and challenges related to International Humanitarian Law (IHL) via research, knowledge transfer, and curriculum development. The ICRC and JGU will work together to create multidisciplinary joint degree programs in international humanitarian action and international humanitarian law as a result of the MoU.

Along with academic exchanges, the MoU also offers internships for OP Jindal Global University students as well as professional development opportunities such as faculty and personnel exchanges.

There are numerous degree programs dedicated to Humanitarian Action and International Humanitarian Law theory and practice, although these are largely focused in Europe and the United States. Both institutions hope that the MoU would help them create exceptional programs of excellence, rooted in the Global South that relies on the praxis and academic research that are at the foundation of both organisations.

Prof (Dr) C Raj Kumar, the Founding Vice-Chancellor of OP Jindal Global University during the event said, ”It’s a very momentous occasion for us to announce this collaboration. The ICRC’s effort to partner with JGU will give enormous opportunities for developing a number of activities and initiatives, including learning outcomes.

At a time when issues relating to conflict, peace and security are at the forefront of bilateral and multilateral engagement of countries in the region and beyond, the need for understanding and appreciating the importance of international law is critical.

OP Jindal Global University Courses that are being launched are only one facet of the more wide-ranging collaborations we intend to establish which would include conferences, lectures, webinars, seminars and internship opportunities. It will also include research projects and joint research initiatives, collaborative endeavours with other institutions in South-Asia and beyond.”

JGU and ICRC will soon host a number of events, including lecture series, roundtables, conferences, and webinars in order to achieve the MoU's objectives. Climate change, natural catastrophes, marine safety and security, and the relationship between humanitarian activities and sustainable development are important topics of concern.

ICRC and JGU will also host an annual conference in India after the pandemic situation improves to examine current humanitarian challenges and constraints.
