November 09, 2020: Karnataka State Law University (KSLU) released an official notice stating that law students who were promoted earlier will now have to appear for the end semester examination conducted by the exam authority.
According to the official notice of Karnataka State Law University, “The students studying in intermediate semesters have been promoted to take admission for the next semester due to the Covid-19 outbreak. The promotion of students is only for the sake of admissions.”
KSLU will schedule the end semester examination for the Intermediate semester students after the reopening of the colleges.
Karnataka State Law University (KSLU) has only conducted the end semester examinations for the final year students during the pandemic. As a result, this created confusion among intermediate semester law students that there would be no exam.
Early to this, KSLU postponed final semester law exams to October 2020 due to Covid-19 outbreak. Hundreds of students in law colleges across the state sighed of relief, as KSLU postponed exams. The reason is, many students have gone back to their hometowns or rural areas as institutions have been shut down for long.
As per the official statement, “Since final year students appeared for the end semester exam and the intermediate law students have been directly promoted. This led to confusion and misunderstanding among the Intermediate semester law students that there would be no exam.”
The official notice has clarified that the Intermediate semester students of various law courses at Karnataka State Law University (KSLU) who were promoted to the next semester are required to appear for exams compulsory as per the Bar Council press release on June 09, 2020.
As per Bar Council’s earlier notice, “All students, except Final year students, will be promoted on the basis of performance of previous year’s marks and marks obtained in the internal examination of the current year.”

All the colleges affiliated to Karnataka State Law University (KSLU) are directed to conduct the end semester examination for the semester students with respect to the semester they have been promoted from after the re-opening of the colleges or universities.
KSLU examination will be conducted with a reasonable period of time, however, students shall continue to study in the semester to which they have been promoted.
Furthermore, the official notice stated, “In case, such students are unable to pass any paper of the end semester exam of the semester from which they have been promoted, they shall have to clear the same before they are granted the degree.”
