KLE Technological University Hubli Conducts Final Year Engineering Online Exams

The Hubli- based KLE Technological University (KLETU), an autonomous university, has started conducting online examinations for the final year students, many of whom have been selected in the campus interview and their date of joining is approaching.

The KLE Technological University started conducting the online classes just after the announcement of the lockdown, and minor exams were already completed.

There are a total of 1,185 final year students, including 380 girls. The KLETU is conducting online examinations for three papers each of one-and-a-half hour duration. The paper is conducted in 5 sessions.

About 50 supervisors monitor the examination process through computers in four rooms. Each supervisor observes 9 students. The students can also see the supervisor while taking the exam.

The students have to log-in half an hour before the examination. KLETU examinations for projects are planned to be held from July 1. 2020 to July 5, 2020.

The Varsity has not started the online examinations for lower classes of engineering students. Though the final semester examinations have been started with a staggered syllabus and less duration.

KLETU Vice-Chancellor Ashok Shettar said, "Many final semester students have been selected in campus interviews and the date of joining is usually July or August. If examinations are not held before that, students will be in trouble. Therefore we took this unique initiative of conducting online examinations, for the first time in the State, though the VTU has not issued any guidelines in this regard."

As stated by the sources in the VTU, the varsity has to receive guidelines from the higher authorities and the circular can be issued then only. However, autonomous universities can use the online mode for conducting examinations.

KLTU Controller of Examination, Anil Kumar Nandi said, "We conducted a demonstration on June 22, 2020 to understand the challenges. The first examination was held on June 27, 2020 in two sessions. The second was held on June 29, 2020, while the last to be held on July 1, 2020. The evaluation of answer sheets and declaration of results will be entirely online."

It is possible to conduct online project examinations for electronics and computer science, but the varsity is searching for options for mechanical, civil and other branches. Professor Nandi also said that the result can be expected one week after the examinations are over.

He further added, around 3,600 students are studying in other semesters and the varsity is planning to conduct their examination from July 2, 2020 and August 1, 2020.
