New Delhi: IIT Palakkad’s technology innovation foundation TECHIN joins hands with West Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. (West) to build a MedTech Research Centre of Excellence.
The MedTech Research Centre of Excellence is being developed with the goal of increasing access to healthcare and medical technology by creating an ecosystem of universities, hospitals, and industry to support local entrepreneurship.
To accomplish this goal, West's medical experts will be joined with IIT Palakkad's unique incubation strategy to improve medical technology research and development.
The engagement will be carried out by West's Digital Technology Centre (DTC) in Bengaluru, which will work directly with TECHIN's team throughout this collaboration.
West will provide a non-commercial version of its medical device connection platform to facilitate the development of linked med-tech equipment to the program's start-ups. West will also coach and perhaps support start-ups through the MedTech Research Centre of Excellence.
Anoop Madhusudanan, vice-president of Digital Marketing and Digital Platforms at West, said, “The intersection of medicine and technology is yet to be explored to its depth and has transformative abilities in providing access to healthcare and ease of patient care. At West, we believe in continuously pushing the boundaries of innovation to provide the best healthcare and medicinal support to the patient. And with this partnership, we envision moving closer to our goal.”
“The partnership with West will enable us to make advancements in medical technology. We expect researchers and innovators to take advantage of TECHIN’s unique incubation model and West’s expertise in medical devices and health technology to accelerate the development of technologies that will ultimately benefit society. We are grateful to West for coming forward to set up this centre at TECHIN, and are looking forward to working with them in making the MedTech Research Centre of Excellence successful in the country,” added IIT Palakkad director and TECHIN chairman P B Sunil Kumar.
