New Delhi: IIT Madras student team Avishkar Hyperloop has obtained funding and technical support from L and T Technology Services Limited (LTTS) to develop their hyperloop initiative in the field of hyperloop-based transportation for commuting.

According to an IIT Madras announcement, the hyperloop transportation model developed by IIT Madras Team Avishkar can reach speeds of up to 1,200 kilometres per hour. The team says that the model is completely autonomous, safe, and environmentally friendly.
A cost-effective hyperloop tube design has already been patented by Team Avishkar. It plans to construct the world's largest student-developed hyperloop testing facility. It plans to finish a 500-meter hyperloop facility this year at IIT Madras' discovery campus.
”Hyperloop has been a buzzword in India for the last few years. Several companies have proposed routes including Mumbai-Pune and Chandigarh-Amritsar", says a statement from the institute.
The IIT Madras students' proposal has previously received recognition at the European Hyperloop Week in Valencia, Spain, in 2021.
V Kamakoti, director of IIT Madras said, "The vacuum tube, when developed, will be the first of its kind in academia anywhere globally and would be on par with the test facility of the commercial entity, Virgin Hyperloop One in the U.S.A. As such, ours would be the only one of its kind available in public, which we intend to utilise to organize international Hyperloop competitions”.
For quite some time, Hyperloop Technology has been the talk of the town. Prof. Mahesh Panchagnula, Dean (Alumni and Corporate Relations), IIT Madras, commented on the project's impact, saying, "CSR funds invested in developing sustainable technology solutions is the only way to be ready for tomorrow’s challenges. We are excited that LTTS has chosen this route."
Avishkar Hyperloop is a student team from IIT Madras' Centre for Innovation whose goal is to use Hyperloop technology to revolutionise transportation. It's a 70 member strong multidisciplinary team with individuals from 11 different academic areas.
