IIT Kanpur Inks MoU with Anil and Kumud Bansal Foundation Worth $ 2.5 M to Establish School of Medical Sciences and Technology


New Delhi: IIT Kanpur has signed an MoU with the Anil and Kumud Bansal Foundation to establish the Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology in the institute.

Under the terms of the agreement, the Anil and Kumud Bansal Foundation will provide 2.5 million US dollars for building the school. Anil Bansal, the founder of the Anil and Kumud Bansal Foundation, is an IIT Kanpur alumni who heads the Foundation with his wife Kumud Bansal.

The medical school at IIT Kanpur will be built in two phases. Phase I of the project will comprise the construction of a 500-bed super-speciality hospital, an academic block, a residential or hostel block, and a service block. It will also include Centers of Excellence (CoE) to conduct R&D in futuristic medicine. This phase is expected to be finished during the next 3-5 years.

IIT Kanpur Courses & Fees 2022

The hospital's capacity will be increased to 1000 beds during Phase II of the project, as well as expansion of clinical departments, research areas, and addition of paramedical disciplines, alternative medicine, hospital administration, sports medicine, and public health programmes. It is expected to take 7-10 years to complete.

Speaking about the funding, Anil Bansal said, “To be able to contribute to one’s alma mater always feels great and when the occasion is such a noble one, the excitement gets multiplied. I am glad to witness IIT Kanpur scaling new heights under the able leadership of Prof. Abhay Karandikar and believe that this new endeavour to set up a one-of-a-kind School of Medical Sciences & Technology would truly bring a new outlook to the field of medical research and innovation in India.
