IIT Jammu’s First Convocation Ceremony to be Organized on January 9; Check Details Here


Indian Institute of Technology(IIT), Jammu is all set to organize its maiden convocation ceremony on January 9, 2021, to award graduate degrees to 79 B.Tech students of 2016 batch. The ceremony will take place in hybrid mode on the Paloura campus.

B.tech Degrees will be awarded to students from the Mechanical, Electrical, and Computer Science Engineering Streams. Out of the 79 students, only 38 students will be physically present on the IIT, Jammu campus with their families.

The remaining students will be joining the convocation ceremony through online mode and will be awarded degrees virtually.

The chief guests of the ceremony are Dr. Arogyaswami J Paularaj, Professor Emeritus from Stanford University along with the celebrated Author and Columnist, Gurucharan Das.

Mr. Das previously held the title of CEO, Proctor and Gamble and Professor Paulraj is a Padmabhushan Awardee. He is a well known Indo-American Electrical Engineer who revolutionized high-speed Wireless services.  

Sharad Kumar Saraf, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT Jammu along with Professor Manoj Singh Gaur, The Director of IIT Jammu, and Professor Ashok K Sarkar, Dean- Academics have addressed the press conference and informed about the convocation ceremony.

Saraf stated, “The design theme of the ceremony has been inspired by the art and culture of Jammu and Kashmir due to which, the traditional convocation robes have been replaced with Firhans and Pakols.” 

During the ceremony, students will be awarded a President’s Gold Medal, a Director’s Gold Medal, and 3 Institute Silver Medals. IIT Jammu will also be unveiling a website - iitjammuconvocation2020.com which will have downloadable pictures and videos of the entire ceremony. 

The Director, IIT Jammu announced that this website will honor the efforts of the 2016 batch in completing their graduation during the Covid-19 pandemic situation.
