News Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar is holding a five-day Regional Children Science Congress of 73 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) of Pune Regional Office of the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS). The Congress will be held from November 16-20, 2022.

The residential event at IIT Gandhinagar will include up to 146 high school kids, including 73 girls and 73 boys, from 73 districts in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa and Diu, Daman, and Dadra Nagar Haveli, as well as about 40 JNV officials, instructors, and support personnel. From the 73 JNV, one boy and one female top student have been attending the Science Congress.
The inaugural session was held on Wednesday, November 16, 2022. Apart from Professor Rajat Moona, Director of IIT Gandhinagar, Professor Anil Gupta, an Indian scholar of grassroots innovations and founder of Honey Bee Network; Dr Narottam Sahoo, Advisor, Gujarat Council of Science and Technology (GUJCOST) graced the inaugural session with their presence.
Mr B Venkateswaran, Deputy Commissioner, NVS Regional Office, Pune, and Prof Sriram Kanvah, Associate Professor, Chemistry, IIT Gandhinagar were also a part of the event.
Professor Moona welcomed all the schoolchildren to the IIT Gandhinagar campus and spoke about the connections between science and technology as well as how science is present everywhere. He said: “When you learn and understand science, it generates more curiosity about how to take it forward to the next level. The theories of science and technology have evolved a lot over the years for a more nuanced understanding of things.”
According to a statement from IIT Gandhinagar, the event aims to give students the chance to venture outside of the classroom, develop their experimental, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, and motivate them to pursue their scientific curiosity and creativity.
The students will participate in a variety of activities over the course of the five-day program, including science experiments, a visit to the top-notch labs at IIT Gandhinagar, interactions with illustrious faculty and scientists, a robotics demonstration, stargazing with a telescope, a trip to Science City, activities by CCL-IITGN, quiz competitions on science and innovation, yoga, and sports.
