IIT Delhi, NSDC Collaborates with NDMC to Deliver Skill Training to 25,000 People


New Delhi: On Wednesday, the vice-chairman Satish Upadhyay of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) said that the civic body is going to collaborate with IIT Delhi and take steps to reduce pollution in its area.

NDMC is going to implement the anti-pollution steps under the National Clean Air Programme. The Council will give skill training to 25,000 people in the next six months by collaborating with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). For this, he said that the Council will sign an agreement with the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Delhi Cantonment Board.

The Vice-chairman has further added that the NDMC Council has also approved other proposals including a number of initiatives such as the celebration of the "Har Ghar Tiranga Programme" by conducting cultural events, illuminating roads, flyovers, and roundabouts. In a press conference, he said that the skill development programme will be held in three phases. The programme will be delivered to contractual workers, masons, plumbers, construction workers, and blacksmiths among others. 

He said, "In the first phase, we will provide skill training to 25,000 people with the help of the National Skill Development Corporation. This phase will be completed in six months." 

Kuljeet Chahal, NDMC member, that the programme will be delivered to a total of 75,000 people out of which 25,000 will be trained in skill development in the first phase. 5000 people will be trained in the second phase, and the remaining 45,000 people will be trained in the third phase. 

 According to him, "A budget of Rs 4.36 crore has been approved for this out of which Rs 1.5 crore would be provided by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship."

"We will use our skill development centres, schools and community centres to impart the skill training to beneficiaries. We will also visit construction sites for imparting training to workers,", he further added. 

In a council meeting, NDMC has come to a proposal of signing an agreement with IIT Delhi for the anti-pollution scheme, Upadhyay said. NDMC officials said the project will adopt measures for strengthening the monitoring network, reducing vehicular and industrial emissions, increasing public awareness and implementing city-specific action plans in its area in a phased manner. "Under the project, the civic body will take steps as suggested by IIT Delhi in its area to better air quality monitoring, minimizing dust pollution etc," the official said.

The NDMC has also released a statement where the Council has also approved a proposal for annual maintenance of its gardens and parks at an estimated expenditure of Rs 6.20 crore.

As per the statement, "Under the programme, NDMC may encourage people to maximum usage of solar panels at an individual level. Upadhyay has already given their proposal for the same and the concerned department will prepare a comprehensive plan for the same."
