IIM Visakhapatnam Observes Diversity In the PGP Batch 2020-22

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Visakhapatnam has inducted 153 students as the six batch of its flagship Postgraduate Program in Management 2020-22.

There is an increase in the intake and 30 more students have enrolled in the course as compared to 123 students in PGP batch 2019-21 of IIM Visakhapatnam.

Engineering graduates dominated the batch of 2020-22 with 65 students, followed by science stream students with a count of 59. There are 153 students from varied academic backgrounds belonging to 25 states of India. Apart from this, there is a good improvement in gender diversity with about 33% of girls from the fresh cohort.

The PGP and Ph.D. programs were inaugurated in the virtual mode by Vidyasagar Pulavarthi, the managing director of Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

Vidyasagar said on the occasion, "It is possible to turn the challenges of these unprecedented times into opportunities. The way businesses are run nowadays is bound to change in the next couple of years. The students should observe the major changes taking place in the business world."

IIIM Visakhapatnam Professor M.Chandrasekhar declared the formation of IIM Visakhapatnam- Foundation for Incubation, Entrepreneurial Learning and Development (IIM-V-FIELD).

He believes that the new initiative will give a thrust to the existing entrepreneurial initiatives like TIDE 2.0 and women start-up programs.

The quantum of fresh students has dropped from 50% to 41% this year. While 25 students have work experience of less than one year, only 21 students have credentials of working for more than three years.

Among 89 experienced professionals, 41% are from IT background and others belong to sectors such as banking, engineering, retail, telecom, and automobiles.
