IGNOU Awarded A++ Grade in NAAC Review; Check Details Here


The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has awarded A++ grade to the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).

The registrar of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) stated that it is the first Higher Education Institution in Open Distance Learning (ODL) category to be accredited by NAAC.

The Open Distance Learning (ODL) Universities are assessed on seven criteria according to NAAC norms. These criteria are curricular aspects, teaching-learning and evaluation, research, innovations and extension, infrastructure and learning resource, learner support and progression, governance, leadership and management, institutional values and best practices.

The criteria for the assessment and accreditations of universities offering distance education programs were recently formulated by NAAC. 

NAAC team visited all the School of Studies, Operational Divisions, Centres/Cells/Units of IGNOU, New Delhi on January 5 and 7, 2021. The team also visited the Regional centres at Delhi, Lucknow, and Cochin and the learner support centres.

An official statement released by IGNOU stated that all the infrastructural facilities of the university were visited by the NAAC team and they had a conversation with the teachers, academics and non-teaching staff of the university. Regional centres, overseas study centres and alumni also took part in the interaction virtually.

“NAAC accreditation of the University is the outcome of the hard work, dedication and team spirit of the University fraternity. The University also extends best wishes to all its students and alumnus for this remarkable achievement. It is the result of the commitment, dedication and hard work of the IGNOU team for the last 34 year, IGNOU Registrar mentioned in the statement.

The official statement also stated that there are 30 lakh students enrolled in IGNOU till now. Because of the NAAC recognition, ODL and Online Learning will play a vital role in access and equity to higher education. 

About NAAC:

National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) was established in the year,1994 as an autonomous body of UGC (University Grants Commission). The council accredits Higher Education Institutions (HEI) in India. NAAC evaluated the ‘quality status’ of academic institutions which includes colleges, universities and other recognised institutions.
