Gujarat University to Offer 4 Year UG & 1 Year PG Programs from the Next Academic Year

New Delhi: Gujarat University will extend the length of undergraduate (UG) programmes from three to four years. The length of postgraduate (PG) courses will also be shortened from their current 2 years to 1 year, based on the most recent information.

These decisions on the length of UG and PG courses were made during the Gujarat University syndicate meeting and will take full effect in the 2023–24 academic year. According to sources, the choice was made in accordance with the requirements of the New Education Policy (NEP 2020). It will be utilised starting with the following school year.

The move, according to the officials, won't affect the overall length of UG and PG programmes. Still, it will benefit the students who want to undertake PG programmes outside of India. After completion, these students were required to finish a one-year honours course.

New Laws in Line with NEP 2020

According to the new arrangement, applicants will receive a certification after completing one year, a diploma after completing two years, a degree after completing three years, and honours after completing four years, according to reports.

Given that they will receive certification each year, this will also aid the learners who want to take a sabbatical.

As a result, even though a student only accomplishes one year of undergraduate study, they will still receive a certificate and can thus apply for jobs relying on that credential. The following course can be taken by the individuals at their discretion.

4 Year Undergraduate Candidates Can Apply Immediately for PhD

University Grants Commission had earlier declared a new Credit and Curriculum Framework for UG Courses. Individuals with a four-year UG degree will soon be eligible to apply for PhD programmes, according to UGC Chairman Jagadesh Kumar.

He added that colleges are now free to choose whether to provide a four year UG programme or a three-year honours degree. Additionally, the three-year undergraduate curriculum won't be abandoned until the entire four-year undergraduate programme is in place.
