Distance education courses are offered by School of distance education for providing higher education to the disadvantaged sections of society. It is affiliated by University of Kerala. There are 54 distance education courses provided by the university.

Distance education B.Sc. courses in Kerala University

University offers two courses in distance learning in Bachelor of Science stream. These are B.Sc. Mathematics and B.Sc. Computer Science. Duration of these undergraduate courses is three years.

Bachelor degree in computer science is for the students who have keen interest in field of software development. In order to meet this objective, programme is planned around conventional and electronic media. This is appropriate for the distance education. It provides job opportunities in industry applications, research and development.

Bachelor degree in mathematics programme comprises of essential topics like calculus, linear algebra and differentiation which helps in other fields like bioinformatics, finance, mathematical physics etc.

Kerala University distance education B.Sc. Admission criteria

Candidates who are aspiring to pursue B.Sc. mathematics and B.Sc. computer science programme need to follow certain eligibility criteria in order to apply for these courses.

Bachelor of computer science: Candidate should have passed pre degree examination of Kerala University or any other equivalent examination or must have any degree of Kerala University or by other recognized board. Students who have done diploma in engineering subjects which are approved by of Technical Education, Government of Kerala can also apply for the course, Diploma being done after three years course in polytechnic.

Bachelor of mathematics: Students who are interested in applying for the B.Sc. mathematics degree programme must have cleared pre degree examination of the Kerala university or Higher Secondary VHSE/ AISSCE/lSE Examination with Mathematics as one of the Optional Subject or any other equivalent examination.

Kerala University distance education B.Sc. Admission procedure

For both the B.Sc. courses, admission procedure is same which is described as follows.

Interested candidates who qualify above required criteria need to buy the prospectus of School of distance education, Kerala University from the SDE office at Palayam, Forms Sales Counter, Palayam Campus, District and Taluk Information Centers, Learners' Support Centres. It is also available on the website of university www.ideku.net.

Take print out of the acknowledgement.

Students applying online have to send acknowledgement with all the required documents to the Director, S D E, University of Kerala, Palayam, Thiruvananthapuram, 695034. They also need to send first installment of admission fee, tuition fee, affiliation fee etc.

Prospectus fee for both the courses is INR 250.

Mode of remittance

Fees can be paid by either cash or demand draft. Demand draft should be in favor of The Finance Officer, University of Kerala payable at SBT service branch Thiruvananthapuram or from the District Co-operative Bank branches payable at State Co-operative Bank Head office Branch at Thiruvananthapuram.

Students who are residing outside Kerala can draw demand draft in favor of The Finance Officer, University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram payable at Thiruvananthapuram.

Overseas students can get demand draft issued from any nationalized bank. If fees is paid through demand draft, there will be a service charge of Rs 10/-. It can also be done by pay-in-slip at The Cash Counters at the University Office, Palayam, Thiruvananthapuram and at the University Campus, Kariavattom and at Friends, Jenasevana Kendram Centres.
