IIM Ahmedabad MBA Summer Placement: Cluster 1

Cluster 1 witnessed about 50 firms from four major sectors like Investment Banking and Markets, Consulting, Private Equity, and Asset Management. Bain & Company, followed by Boston Consulting Group emerged as the top recruiters in cluster 1, with 20 and 19 offers, respectively.

IIM Ahmedabad MBA Summer Placement: Cluster 2

Cluster 2 witnessed about 40 firms from seven different domains including Advertising & Media, Consumer Electronics, Consumer Goods & Durables, Consumer Services, Conglomerates, Retail B2B and B2C, and Pharma-Healthcare. Amazon emerged as the top recruiter in cluster 2 with 14 offers.
 

IIM Ahmedabad MBA Summer Placement: Cluster 3

Cluster 3 witnessed 50 firms from 11 different domains including Banking & Insurance, Financial Services, Consumer Technology, Core Manufacturing & Infrastructure, Education Tech, Enterprise Tech, Food & Dairy, Govt. Enterprises, Analytics & IT Consulting, Renewable Energy & Green Tech, and Social Enterprises & NGO. Tata Consultancy Services emerged as the top recruiter with 15 offers in total.

MBA Summer Internship: IIM Calcutta

• IIM Calcutta successfully wrapped up its Summer Placements for the batch of 2020-2022, with a total of 139 firms from diverse sectors participating in the process, offering internships for 473 students.
• This year IIM Calcutta welcomed 43 new recruiters. 
• Consulting, Finance, and BFSI emerged as the top sectors placing 40% of offers, 32% in General Management and Sales Marketing roles, and 28% in product management, e-commerce, and startups

IIM Calcutta MBA Summer Placement: Cluster 1

• Cluster 1 welcomed 35 firms from sectors like Private Equity, Investments, Venture Capital firms, and Management Consulting.
• A total of 180 students were placed in the first clusters, Accenture being the top recruiter with 21 offers.

IIM Calcutta MBA Summer Placement: Cluster 2

• Cluster 2 placed 171 students across 60 firms belonging to sectors like Conglomerates, FMCG, Consumer Services, Software Services, E-Commerce, and Consumer Durables. Microsoft emerged as the top recruiters placing 11 offers.

IIM Calcutta MBA Summer Placement: Cluster 3

Cluster 3 placed 122 students across 44 firms from sectors like  Advertising, BFSI, Consulting Services, Power and Utilities, Manufacturing, Hospitality Services, Food Aggregators, and Start-Ups.
 

MBA Summer Internship: IIM Lucknow

• IIM Lucknow concluded its’ 2020 Summer Placement for the batch of 2020-2022 with a 100 percent placement.
• The Business School completed its Summer Placements program for the 36th batch of PGP and the 17th batch of PGP-ABM.

• IIM Kozhikode conducted its Summer Placement 2020 for the 24th batch of PGP, and new batches of PGP Liberal Studies and Management and PGP Finance.
• With 52% of the student population comprising women and 40% of the students from a non-engineering background, IIM Kozhikode witnessed 144 firms offering internships to 541 students.

MBA Summer Internship: How to Prepare for MBA Placement Interviews?

Business Schools start their placement processes in the first year itself, with many companies and firms offering internships with stipends in lacs. So a B-school student is expected to be prepared and well-versed throughout the interview process. The following are some key points to consider while preparing for MBA placement interviews:

• Have a resume that stands out: Recruiters are very specific when it comes to resumes. An effective resume should contain all the information regarding your education, skills, and work experience in a very concise manner. No recruiter is interested to read a five-page resume, so make sure it is crisp and to the point.
• Prepare well for the aptitude test : No MBA placement interview is complete without an aptitude test, which tests your logical reasoning and data interpretation skills. Students should make sure that they brush up on the basics and do well in aptitude tests, as they are the primary phases of an interview.
• Prepare for common questions asked: Students often forget to spend their time preparing for common questions asked during an interview like introducing yourself and questions about strengths and weaknesses. These questions are essential, as they make up your first impression and let the recruiters know about your communication skills. Make sure you are well prepared to answer such non-technical questions.
• Level up your listening and communication skills for Group Discussions: Group Discussions are also the major part of any business school placement interview. Group discussions are held to assess how well you listen, interpret, and convey your thoughts. It also helps the recruiter know how you can stand out in a crowd.

MBA Summer Internship: Interview Questions

• Tell me about yourself.

This tops the list of questions that are asked in a placement interview. The key to answering this question is simple, be clear and concise. This question is asked to assess how well you can present yourself and tests your basic communication skills. A student should be able to introduce themselves in not more than 3-4 lines, starting from education, work experience, and your interests that can match the profile you are interviewing for.

• Why did you choose MBA? What are your career goals?

A candidate is expected to answer this question in a manner that conveys his genuine interest in this field. As far as career goals are concerned, one can start with short term goals and later talk about his long term career plans, where he sees himself, and what profiles he thinks he can fit in. Make sure you describe your career goals in a manner that matches the recruiter’s job description.

• What are your strengths and weaknesses?

When talking about your strengths, make sure that your strengths are those that you can justify, and it matches the requirements of the job description. Do not say anything that you cannot justify later. When talking about your weaknesses, try to not sound negative or self-deprecating. End your statement to overcome your weaknesses.

• Are you a team player?

Teamwork is very important at all stages of your life, especially in companies you wish to work. To answer this question, you can mention the instances where you have worked successfully as a team member, or even as a team leader. It will not only help to portray your teamwork skills but also your leadership skills.

• Why should we hire you?

No interview is complete without asking this question. To answer this question, you need to have knowledge and understanding about the company, how it works, and what they expect from you. Figure out how the company suits your interests and use your skills and interests to align with the company. 

MBA Summer Internship: Common Mistakes During a Job Interview

 MBA Placements are very crucial to start your career in the corporate world. Every student wants to excel in the interview and avoid any mistakes, as it can hinder your chances of getting placed. Mentioned below are some common mistakes during a job interview and how to avoid them:

• Not being punctual

The first mistake you can make is arriving late for your job interview. It shows that you have poor time management skills and a lack of respect for the recruiter and the interviewer. Make sure you manage your time and arrive early for your interview.

• Dressing Inappropriately

No matter if you are applying for a corporate job or a startup, you are expected to dress professionally and maintain a good appearance. 

• Not know the company

Not having any knowledge about the company you wish to work for tells your recruiter that you have no interest in working with them and you lack the skills required to work with the company. You must have a brief knowledge about the company, its history and work profile.

• Lying in your resume

Stating false information in your resume or skills that you lack, can snap back at you when you are asked to justify during the interview. A recruiter expects your resume to be truthful, with no fuzzy facts.

• Talking too much

Talking too much about yourself during the interview portrays a wrong impression. You should be concise, to the point, and maintain a professional tone throughout your interview. You are not expected to talk much about your personal life.

MBA Summer Internship: During COVID and Post COVID

COVID pandemic has affected every aspect of life, including placements in business schools. It did not just affect their teaching schedules and placement processes, but also has led to an economic downturn which affected their placement records and recruitment patterns.

The students who were offered summer placements were asked to work at a lower stipend or no stipend at all. Joining dates were rescheduled, and they were asked to work from home. 

Facing such problems, Business schools came up with certain plans and new opportunities to compensate for the lost ones.

• Some Business schools, for example, all of the IIMs, welcomed startups and sectors that did well during the pandemic like healthcare, pharma, e-commerce, and education technology.
• Business schools plan to engage sectors like hospitality, retail, and supply chain management that did not do well during the COVID but will flourish post-COVID as a step to bag more and more placement offers in the coming future.
• Sectors like healthcare and digital platforms, which are not an evident part of the placement recruiters before COVID, have been supported by many business schools as a part of their plans.
• Many recent startups were seen offering placements to the students studying in top business schools. This was done to compensate for the lost placement offers due to the slowdown in the economy during the pandemic.
