Becoming Engineers may no longer be the label for success and fame like its heydays but to dismiss them as a tribe moving fast towards extinction is a very early call yet. In spite of its diminishing glory, Engineering still attracts the maximum candidates as the most preferred career choice. For all the jokes and mockery that portray engineers leading a mechanical life and lacking everyday sensibility, they are devoid of creativity. One can hardly discount for the fact that Engineers are at the forefront of pathbreaking research and innovation ushering us into a new world.
Well, that’s not to say that the path to becoming Engineers does not include those memories and experiences which one can recall and cherish forever. The time they spend at Colleges (and Hostels) are some of the most defining moments in their lives. From waking up all night to prepare for complex exams and projects to sleeping around in classrooms or bunking lectures, everything is part of the experience that shapes an engineer in the initial years.
Here we shared some of the experiences that only Engineers will be familiar to.
Waking Up At 9
The roadmap to becoming engineers is to wake up early for the First-morning lecture or the weekly class assessments. Even those indulging in all night revelry are not spared and have to wake up to early to join the brigade marching towards the lecture hall.
Scarcity of Girls in Classroom
Well if you are from a co-ed school, you may feel like ending up in some alien land. Except for a handful of streams like Computer Science and Engineering, the enrollment percentage is quite low in B.E./B Tech courses. Since girls are fairly non-existent in classrooms, a couple of them in the batch would be chased by all.
End Up Spending More Time in Hostel
In the highly competitive environment of engineering colleges, the only respite for everyone will be the hostels where most students end spending more time. It is here that you will make some of the best friends and companions in your life.
Seniors will be Both Bully and Guide
There is no end to ragging stories from engineering colleges. Seniors will always own you up. Most seniors will expect you call them as ‘Sir/Mam’. But then they are also the ones who’ll guide you in your semester exams, provide valuable notes and even give you much-needed career counseling.
D Day: Campus Placements
Your endless struggles and pain will be nothing if you fail to secure a placement in a leading brand. This will be the biggest test of your life, even bigger than your 10+2 boards or JEE Main. Securing placement is the only way to make your four years worthwhile. Both success and failure to get placed will be the lesson learnt the hard way for an engineer.
Friends and Relatives Believe You to Repair Things
The common notion that engineers can fix anything in life from computers to cars to electric sockets will be true for you once go back home. Everyone expects you to be at the top of your game.
Endless Procrastination
Well, the complex concepts and technical jargon can drive anyone nuts. Procrastination becomes an integral part of your engineering life and you’ll wake only a day before the exam.
