Fakir Mohan University to Open Center of Excellence on Bioresources, Read Details Here


January 15, 2021: Fakir Mohan University, Balasore, Vice-chancellor, Dinabandhu Sahoo has inaugurated the construction of the center of excellence 'Bioresources Management and Energy Conservation Material Management” on Thursday, January 14, 2021. 

Fakir Mohan University is receiving funding from the World Bank and the Odisha Higher Education Programme for Excellence and Equity (OHEPEE) to create this center of excellence. Research and Management of Biodiversity Centre on its campus grounds.

Research and Management of Biodiversity Centre will focus on studies regarding biodiversity including seaweed, mangroves, medicinal plants, marine, and micro-organisms. 

Additionally, it will also be used to study and monitor pollution levels in ground and surface water levels, and assess management and control means. 

Energy conservation by the development of hydro-non composite materials is a core aspect of the research conducted at the center.

The construction of the 1,000 square feet center with state-of-the-art laboratories modern and sophisticated facilities and equipment is expected to be completed by the end of 2021 by the State Police Housing and Welfare Corporation Limited.

Dinabandhu Sahoo said that biodiversity is a crucial aspect of life on earth. Some of the greatest challenges in the world include problems regarding climate change, global warming, pollution, food and nutrition deficiency, water crisis, etc. 

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected the entire world, and it is likely that there will be more challenges in the future. Scientific and technological advancement is the way to deal with this, he added. 

India is very rich in biodiversity. Bioresource management and energy conservation is not only a weapon against these challenges but it can help create hundreds of jobs in India while generating lump sum revenue for the country’s economy, said Dinabandhu Sahoo.

“We need to conserve our biodiversity for future generations and go for bioresources management to fulfill some of the objectives of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (UNSDG),” he added.
