While this was always in consideration, it is now confirmed that UPSEE 2021 will be scrapped from the 2021 session for engineering admissions. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) will instead use JEE Main score for admission in 1.5 lakh seats at 750 engineering colleges in the state.

JEE Main is a national level entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to offer admission to various bachelor level programs like B. Tech/ B. E., B. Plan and B. Arch. in top engineering colleges across India covering the IIITs, NITs, etc. It is then followed by JEE Advanced to be eligible for admissions in the IITs.

UPSEE 2021 replaced with JEE Main for engineering admissions

Benefit of JEE Main 2021 to replace UPSEE

Even though it was evident for some years, the decision finally came after multiple discussions between the Vice-chancellor of the Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) Professor Vinay Pathak and the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath.

  • Multiple states already use JEE Main score to fill its state engineering college seats, thus the Uttar Pradesh state government also decided to make use of it.
  • Using a single exam for admission not only saves the student from appearing in multiple exams but also relieves the pressure of preparing for two separate engineering entrance exams.
  • It will also give the candidates enough time to be better prepared and focus on JEE Main syllabus only.
  • While JEE Main is to be used for admissions in Engineering Colleges in Uttar Pradesh, JEE Main is also conducted twice a year, giving the students ultimate benefit. JEE Main is first held in the month of January and then conducted again in April, the student who has not scored well in the January exam can have another take on the improvement of marks.

  • Focus on all the sections: Since all the sections have equal weightage given by the National Testing Agency, it is without any doubt evident that every subject has equal importance. The experts suggest preparing short notes of each and every subject which can include all the different concepts, formulae and equations.
  • Making Basic Concepts Strong: JEE Main is known to test the basics of the candidate. While it is essential to study all the topics mentioned in the syllabus prescribed by the National Testing Agency. Also, by knowing the basic concepts, it becomes much easier to understand each topic in depth. This results in a greater understanding of the topics and further simplifying the studying of complicated topics.
  • Improving the weak points: Each and every candidate will surely have a weak point in a subject. Experts suggest spending more time and focusing on the topics which are stressing the candidate. Also, the candidate can understand such concepts by constantly studying them.
  • Previous Year Papers: While this is synonymous for each and every exam, it is no different for JEE Main. The entrance examination aspirants are advised to take multiple mock tests which are well constructed by best faculties or the previous year JEE Main exam papers. This will help the aspirant in understanding the exam environment, needless to say the stress of solving the questions in a specific period of time. However, with the recent modifications, this stress is going to be reduced immensely as the number of questions has reduced from 90 to 75 in the same amount of time. Check JEE Main Sample Papers

Frequently Asked Questions

Ques. Why was UPSEE replaced by JEE Mains from 2021?

Ans. The primary reason for the removal of UPSEE was so that students from UP no longer have to study for two exams when students from a lot of other states just have to study for JEE Mains. This reduces the stress on the students and allows them to apply for a wider range of universities through just one exam.

Ques. How will I manage JEE Main 2021, if I have no experience with computers and online tests?

Ans. The Ministry of Human Resource Development has mandated the NTA to set up, establish and create a network of Test Practice Centres for candidates, especially in remote and rural areas to enable them to practice and be comfortable in taking a Computer Based Test (CBT). This facility will be completely free of cost. This will facilitate and ease the process of being able to take a Computer Based Test (CBT). The entire experience of using a computer will be as close to the actual experience of taking a CBT as possible. All efforts will also be made to provide practice tests and questions so that candidates can familiarize themselves with logging into the system, go through the detailed instructions regarding the test, use the mouse, scroll down to the next question, navigate between questions, review and edit their options and submit questions. It will also offer Mock Test.

Ques. How many times can I appear for JEE Main in one year?

Ans. JEE Main is held twice a year. Once in January and once in September. You can choose to appear for the exam both times in a year, in which case, the better of the two scores will be considered.

Ques. Is studying Physics from H.C Verma good enough for JEE Main 2021?

Ans. If you complete H.C Verma part 1 and 2 both, you will be decently prepared for JEE Main Physics. Since JEE Main focuses more on basic concepts and their applications, a book like H.C Verma works quite well for this exam. However, it is not recommended to study and practice from only one book. Take a few mock tests in order to find out your weak areas so you can then know which other books to use to cover those weaknesses.

Ques. How good is scoring 70 percentile in JEE Mains?

Ans. Scoring 70 percentile in JEE Mains means that you have scored more than 70 per cent of the students who have appeared for JEE Mains. Though the percentile secured stands in the middle of “not too good” and “not too bad”, you may have to compromise with either preferred college or preferred branch as with this percentile your rank will be around 3 lakh. There is always scope for improvement, and thus you are advised to work more for the paper.

Ques. What is the common aspect between all JEE Main Toppers?

Ans. If one looks at the preparation strategies of all JEE Main Toppers of the past 5 years, one can easily chalk out the 4 C’s based on which they laid the foundation of their dreams.

  • Clear understanding of concepts
  • Considering NCERT books as the bible for success
  • Constant practice of previous year question papers
  • Continuous study for a minimum of 8 hours a day

Ques. What are the qualifying marks for JEE Main?

Ans. The qualifying marks for JEE Main is subjective owing to a variety of factors pivotal in its calculation and normalization. The cutoff for general category students is generally tipped to be between 80-89. It is ideal to score above this mark or rank under 15,000 to be on the safer side and increase possibilities of admission to a top institute of the country.

Ques. What are the types of JEE Main Cutoff?

Ans. JEE Main Cutoff is of two types - admission and qualifying. The qualifying cutoff for JEE Main is the minimum marks needed to be eligible for contesting in the next round of JEE Advanced Exam. The admission cutoff is the one released by NTA as the JoSAA which indicates the candidature of individual aspirants for their admission possibilities in IITs.

Ques. What percentage of the syllabus do I need to cover in order to get 99 percentile in JEE Main 2021?

Ans. If you cover at least 60% of the syllabus (including the most important topics) thoroughly and do not make a single mistake while attempting the questions from these chapters, then you stand a chance to get a 99 percentile score in JEE Main 2021.

Ques. What are the important parts from class 11 inorganic chemistry that are included in JEE Main 2021 syllabus?

Ans. While the inorganic chemistry part of JEE Main is mostly form class 12 topics, the important chapters from class 11 are as follows

  • s Block (hydrogen)
  • Oxidation-reduction reactions
  • Chemical bonding
  • Periodic table ( properties shown by their compounds)

Ques. Is NCERT enough to cover the entire JEE Main 2021 syllabus?

Ans. NCERT provides a solid foundation for your JEE Main preparation. It covers all the basics for every chapter included in the syllabus. However, you should not stop your preparation after finishing the NCERT books. After mastering the basics, you can move on to more targeted studies by reading and solving questions from different books that specialize in a certain part of the syllabus.
