New Delhi: Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh has announced that the university has planned to introduce certificate courses for non-DU students from January 2023.

The VC said that housewives, retirees and working professionals who want to pursue certain subjects but do not want a degree, may be eligible to attend classes with regular Delhi University students.
Announcing this decision, stated that the issue will be discussed at the upcoming Academic Council meeting, which is set for August 3, 2022.
An individual, who is not enrolled at any courses offered by DU, will be permitted to pursue a maximum of two courses at once and the credits earned will be added to their academic credit bank.
The Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) is an online repository that will maintain digital records of the scholastic credits that a student has obtained. Consequently, the participating students will receive a certificate at the end of the programme.
This, according to Singh, will benefit those who want to learn more about a specific subject or skill but do not want to pursue a full-time degree.
Some students only want to take a few courses since they don't want a degree, thus the university is planning to start offering course-based registration so that the citizens can attend classes alongside students, he said.
Further, he continued saying that the participating student will receive a certificate that will be recorded in their academic bank of credits at the end of the programme. The applicant could be both a working person and a student. Retirement-age individuals are also welcome to pursue and study.
The course could be of any subject for a specific programme, and the candidate will be able to come and attend the classes alongside DU students to pursue the degree. In this aspect, the specifics are still being worked out.
In further explanation, he stated that individuals may wish to take one of the three BA(Hons) Political Science courses that is offered to first-year students and that they will be permitted to do so as long as they match the eligibility requirements that will be set up.
The VC said that the varsity is yet to decide the specifics of the prerequisites and the minimum age to enrol in a specific course. It is anticipated that a student will be permitted to enrol in no more than two courses at once. Otherwise, they'll have to come to the university to complete their degree.
He said that a student can earn eight credits in one year in this method and students can earn a degree after taking 176 credits throughout the years.
He concluded by saying that the opportunity is beneficial to housewives as well as they are welcome to come and learn new skills and everything else they are interested in learning.
Meanwhile, the Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB) of DU is currently accepting applications for admission to various undergraduate courses for academic session 2022-23. The deadline to apply for DU NCWEB UG Admission is July 25, 2022.
