DU Admission 2022: 60% Students from First Merit List Freeze their Seats

New Delhi: Delhi University has announced that nearly 60% of the 59,100 applicants who received offers of admission in the first round of seat distribution at DU have chosen to upgrade to a higher "programme+college combination" preference.

However, more than 25% of the total students have chosen to freeze their undergraduate seats. As per Delhi University DU, the registered candidates who are allotted seats in CSAS round 1 allocation had the chance to rearrange their higher preferences and opt for an upgrade on or before October 27, 2022 for DU UG admission 2022.

According to the DU official, It was not immediately clear the status of the remaining 8,300 candidates, but as many as 35,388 students chose to upgrade, while 15,398 chose to freeze their seats.

Freezing seats indicates that a candidate has secured the 'programme+college combination' they got and they will not be looking for an upgrade.

The official revealed that the upgrade option was available for those who have not been allocated their first preference of course and college.

On October 26, the university opened a two-day window for those who have been admitted to undergraduate courses to upgrade to their higher "programme+college combination" preference.

More than 6,500 applicants have received their first preference of course and college. On October 25, the university concluded the first round of seat distribution, with over 59,100 applicants securing admission to undergraduate programmes by paying fees.

The university will further announce the second phase of the Central Seat Allocation System on October 30 based on the availability of seats.

The majority of the available seats in the courses offered by the colleges on DU's north campus are already taken. There are either none or extremely few seats available at Hindu College, Aryabhatta College, Miranda House, and St. Stephen College.

This year, DU is enrolling undergraduate students for the first time using the results of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET). Until last year, the admissions was done on the basis of students' class 12th marks.

The students will have until November 1 at 4:59 pm to "accept" their seat after the second round of allocations is released on October 30 at 5 pm.

Meanwhile, the university will commence the new academic semester from the first week of November. Last week, the university authorities announced that they are setting up two joint control rooms in the north and south campus beginning November 2 for a week to ensure the smooth induction of students. Apart from that, they will also conduct many anti-ragging measures.
