The decisions taken by the Council on Tuesday will further be deliberated over by the University’s Executive Council during a meeting scheduled for March 25.

CUCET 2022: Highlights of Major Changes

  • Admissions to DU on the basis of CUCET scores is not feasible
  • Eligibility criteria for admission to DU must be inclusive
  • Students should appear for CUCET in subjects already cleared by them
  • Admissions to all supernumerary seats and minority colleges should be conducted through CUCET.

The Standing Committee recommended that admissions to DU should only be on the basis of CUCET Scores. According to the minutes of meetings, members objected to this proposal as it will not be feasible to include any other criterion based on marks obtained in board exams.

It was also felt that eligibility criteria should be inclusive so that a large number of pupils from all over the country can easily apply for admission. It was, therefore, suggested that candidates must sit for CUCET in only those subjects in which they have successfully cleared Class 12 Board examinations.

The minutes of the meeting also mentioned that in case a particular subject studied in Class 12 is not available in CUCET, students should apply for a similar or closely related subject. It stated that “Merit will be calculated on the basis of a combination of subjects in which a candidate has appeared in CUCET as mentioned in the programme-specific eligibility,"

The standing committee also proposed that admission to all supernumerary seats apart from foreign students also be conducted through CUCET. In case of courses under the faculty of music and fine arts, and B.Sc in physical education and sports, admission will be offered on the basis of combined performance-based test scores and CUCET scores. Both the scores will have 50% weightage.

It was also decided that admission to minority colleges like St Stephen's and Jesus and Mary, will also be done through CUCET. During centralized counselling, separate merit lists will be generated for unreserved and minority candidates as per the reservation policy, for these colleges.
