CHARUSAT's Provost Dr. Pankaj Joshi Receives Vainu Bappu Award 


Globally renowned scientist Dr. Pankaj Joshi who recently joined CHARUSAT Gujarat as the 3rd provost has been awarded the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) - Vainu Bappu award.

Dr. Joshi has been accorded for his contribution to black hole physics, gravitation and cosmology. His extensive analysis of general relativistic gravitational collapse has been widely acknowledged as providing significant insights into the final fate of massive collapsing stars in the universe, cosmic censorship and space-time singularities.

What is INSA?

Indian National Science Academy (INSA) is a national level academy located in New Delhi in all branches of Science & Technology. It was established in 1935 with the object of promoting science in India and harnessing scientific knowledge for the cause of humanity and national welfare. INSA award is given to astronomers and astrophysics of International recognition.

While appreciating INSA for acknowledging his work, Joshi said, "It is satisfying that the top International award from INSA has recognized our frontier works on black holes and collapsing stars. I sincerely hope this inspires young researchers to work on this exciting development in Cosmology."

Joshi has been recognized at large scale for his work on the final fate of supermassive stars. His research has been reported in more than 200 research papers in International Journals of repute and also in monographs from OUP, CUP and other books.
