Dr. S.K Panda is the Director at Sherwood College of Pharmacy. He has worked in the field of Pharmacy for more than 3 decades as a reputed Academician and Administrator. He has also worked in the multinational companies like M/S Glaxo India Ltd and M/S Li Taka Pharmaceuticals Ltd. He is a Life member of the Indian Hospital Pharmacist Association and Pharmaceutical Teachers of India. He is a recipient of the Life Time Achievement Gold Medal Award, Rashtriya Vidya Saraswati Puraskar, and Shiksha Bharati Puraskar. He also guided several UG and PG students in pharmacy institutions.

What are the prime factors that connect you with the education sector?

“To help the students for professional needs and provide career guidance”

I have connected with the education sector due to two primary factors. The primary parts are to remove misconceptions in the mind of students from various sources. It helps them to prepare them to keep pace with modern professional needs. Moreover, upgrading my professional knowledge, and providing career guidance to the pupil are other factors. It helps students in multiple ethical ways.

What is your leadership philosophy?

“Develop positive culture among students, staff, and community members”

My philosophy of leadership is to develop a positive culture among students, staff, and other community members. I prefer to delegate tasks, evaluate and educate on a need basis. I always like to be involved and inspire my team members for better results. Moreover, I guide and educate them for better understanding and knowledge. My style of leadership is participative. 

Do you have any extracurricular programs to enhance the skills of the students?

“Extracurricular activities and international seminars for pupils”

We are conducting various extracurricular activities like sporting events, indoor and outdoor events. Moreover, we send them outside to attend various national and international seminars. The industrial tours enhance their skills and prepare them for future exposure. All these aids to face real-world challenges.

What are your roles and responsibilities? 

“Provide direction, coordination to campus, and maintain educational programs”

My role as a director is to provide better leadership, direction, and coordination within the institute. I focus on developing and maintaining effective educational programs. Moreover, the improvement of teaching and learning processes within the institute. My role towards students is to create an environment for academic success. It is necessary to promote leadership qualities among them.

What do you think about the Institute's top priority over the next 10 years? 

“Provide a necessary platform for students and emphasis for industrial exposure”

It is essential to provide students with an atmosphere to nourish their skills. Every student gets an opportunity to freely think and develop skills to the maximum. Professionalism is achieved through rational ways of thinking and performing. By providing a platform to students to come out with their ideas and suggestions in any aspect of education. It helps to focus on innovative research. Moreover, more emphasis is on improving the students’ presentation skills, personality, industrial and practical exposure. Because clinical and practical training is part of the curriculum. 

What are the new programs introduced in your college?

“Diploma in Pharmacy course is upcoming on campus”

We have introduced one new course at our college. That is, Diploma in Pharmacy(D.Pharm) in the session of 2018-19. It is continuing for the growth of students in the pharmacy sector.

What do you like people to know about Sherwood College of Pharmacy?

“Essential facilities for students inside the campus”

The institution is situated inside the Sherwood Educational Campus. All essential facilities like hospital, canteen and greenery are available. A hostel facility is also available inside the campus. Staff Quarters are available for all categories of staff starting from Director Bungalow to peon flat. Games and Sports facilities are inside the campus.

We pay extra attention to promoting creativity, critical thinking, enthusiasm, problem-solving, visualization, perseverance, and flexibility among students. It helps them with wholesome development. Moreover, it allows them to compete professionally.

How do you establish a healthy relationship and environment in the institute?

“Trust and positive relationships are built between students, teachers, and parents”

A healthy environment is maintained by a positive relationship with students and parents starting from the first day. The arrangement of the induction program for students creates a friendly and participative environment. It leads to organizing different cultural programs. Planning for clear communication and freeing them from traditionally mundane information is necessary. Trust-building is a primary parameter for student and teacher relationships.

Any suggestions do you like to give to aspiring students?

“Be patient, persistent, and work hard for the success of your career”

My first suggestion is to take the time to know yourself. A narrow focus brings big results. Patience and persistence are essential for candidates. Luck comes from hard work. Students must be the best at all times.
