You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“To deliver the specific knowledge that I find interesting enough to explore this field”

The hospitality and hotel industry requires diverse interpersonal interactions. What I see here is that there is a lack of technical knowledge in this field. Chef just knows how to prepare the food but the technicalities included in the processes are missing. Chefs don’t know the basic aspects like why the color of the food is changing, what sort of sauces are needed with what cuisine, why do we use a particular spice for a particular meal and so on. That is why I want to deliver that knowledge and I find it interesting enough to explore this field.

What is your philosophy of leadership and describe your leadership style in Abhi Institute of Hotel Management?

“To grow in the hotel and hospitality industry is my leadership style”

If you want to grow in the hotel and hospitality industry, there must be a combination of both practical and theoretical knowledge. We should see how Starbucks is working and why it is successful. We should then try to implement the same in our curriculum also so that students can do experiential learning.

We make sure that the basics of any topic are clear with the student. So, they are able to elevate their hard topics accordingly.

When you first came to Abhi Institute of Hotel Management, what was your vision for the university?

“To build the overall personality of students from our campus”

Well my ultimate objective is to make sure that any student who has joined Abhi Institute of Hotel Management becomes a better version of herself/himself in terms of overall personality development. I have seen a lot of changes in the colleges from the infrastructure changes to changes in the curriculum. When we took 2014, the level of students was simple. Now with the advent of technology, student thinking has become vast. Social media has played a crucial role. Students have become active. Now they have knowledge about the topics beforehand. Sometimes, I get to learn from them as well.

What are some of the major changes that Covid-19 has bought in the education sector according to you?

“Mass cancellations of accommodations and bookings is the greatest challenge faced by the education sector”

There is no doubt in the fact COVID-19 has affected every sector across the Globe. The hotel industry was among the hardest hit. There were decisions taken to shut down hotels, restaurants, theme parks, cinemas, not to mention the entire disruptive effect of the travel ecosystem. All had a significant impact on worldwide tourism. Mass cancellations of accommodations and bookings were faced by the major hotels across the globe. They had to pay salaries even without earning a penny. Some projects which were at initial stage were called off from the fear of losses. There was a pause in the practical learning which forms the basis of the and the focus was only theory which was not good. Now the situation has changed and it is getting boosted.

Are there any placement opportunities for the students?

“100% students are placed from our campus”

We have 100% students placed. Most of our alumini are associated with top brands like Leela, Taj, Oberoi and so on.

How is your relationship with the students of Abhi Institute of Hotel Management?

“Teach pupils in a friendly manner and clear all their queries”

I have a very good relationship with all of my students. I try to teach them in a friendly manner. So that, I can understand their problems and they are open with me. By this method, they are able to ask questions and their doubts freely. Since I have been in this industry for a long time now, I know what the student is thinking at any point of time. I can sense that they have a doubt even if they don’t raise their hand and I try to tell the topic by other examples also.
