Dr. Manju Acharya has been working as the Head and Assistant Professor of Political Science Department at S.S. Jain Subodh Girls P.G. College, Jaipur, Rajasthan. She has done B. Ed., MA and PhD as part of her academics. She is also the convenor of the Women's Cell in S.S.Jain Subodh Girls P.G. College, the main aim of the cell is to create awareness for women's rights and duties. She played an important role in a guest lecture and tree plantation program which was organized by the National Service Scheme.

What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

"I am responsible for monitoring and supervising departmental activities and students academic progress"

Being the Department Head, the scope of my responsibilities is very vast and dynamic in nature. And I am responsible to ensure that the department reaches the highest possible standards of excellence in all its activities through the careful management and development of students.

How do you establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

"I regularly communicate with them and try to fix their issues on time"

I regularly interact with my students and never forget to appreciate their good work. Also whenever they need my support, guidance and help, I make sure I remain available for them. And when it comes to Faculties, I always treat them with respect and honesty and try to engage myself in productive discussions with them on suitable occasions. 

How do you bring in a practical and industry oriented approach towards subjects?

"By organizing professional tours for students to give them an overview of industrial world"

I teach my students using PPT and by combining theory and practical and also conduct a range of activities like educational tours and sports events so that they can get appropriate exposure about how things actually work in the outside world. Also, I motivate my students to participate in different learning competitions and programs.

How do you strategize and update the curriculum to make it more befitting for the students?

"Education tours, expert lectures and yoga activities are part of our college curriculum"

I am responsible for managing and motivating all my departmental staff and offering a positive, encouraging and effective learning environment to students so that they can receive skilled education in their respective subjects. And to make our curriculum compliant with industrial developments and requirements, I organize education tours, external speaker sessions in collaboration with industry experts, sports activities and Yoga programs as and when required.

What are your views on the placement and higher education of students from your department?

"We are doing great and many of our students are working in some good companies"

We are doing good as far as the placement of students is concerned. And to make our students industry ready, I always recruit teachers and university supervisors very carefully so that our students could be trained in the best possible way to work in the corporate sector. 

Which strategies do you use to prepare students to deal with the outside competitive world? 

"By motivating them to believe in their skills and acknowledging their good work on time"

We usually assign projects to students in groups and allot different roles and responsibilities to each student. And I never forget to appreciate my students for their good work. In addition to this, we encourage our students to believe in their skills, individuality and never compare their uniqueness with others. 

What extracurricular activities are organized by your college to enhance the skills of students?

"Skills development programs, spots tournament and cultural fests are arranged by our college"

We firmly believe that co-curricular activities are mandatory along with academics for complete growth of students. Hence our college organizes skill development programs, club activities, different kinds of competitions, cultural programs and sports events on a regular basis to enhance the skills of students. 

Which challenges are you facing to uplift the education quality of your department?

"As of now, we are not facing any severe challenges"

First I would like to thank our respected Principal Ma'am for giving me this opportunity of leading the Political Science Department of our college. I have learnt a lot from her. Yes, we face difficulties while upgrading our education methodologies and quality but with everyone's support, most of the roadblocks have been removed and we are progressing day by day. 

What approaches do you bring in apart from curriculum to teach students?

"Workshops are organized regularly and projects and assignments are allotted to them"

For the purpose of educating students beyond curriculum and books, we regularly organize workshops and assign research based assignments and projects to them. In addition to this, students need to give a proper presentation about the topic which is assigned by us and my main objective here is to boost their confidence, public speaking and communication skills.

Any valuable advice which you would like to share with young minds?

"Always be grateful for your parents and make best use of internet to learn new skills"

I would like to advise my dear students and youths of our society that no matter what the situation is, always appreciate your parents' efforts because no one can love and take care of you more than them and they are the one who holds your back and helps you to achieve even your biggest dreams. Also, make effective use of the internet for your learning and don't take unnecessary pressure and stress about the things or scenarios you don't have control over. Don't be afraid to ask questions from your parents and teachers and learn how to deal with negative emotions. Lastly, focus on progress not perfection.
