Ms. Priyanka Gahlot is currently serving as Senior UI/UX faculty at ImaginXP & CODE-VGU., Vivekanand Global University (VGU), Jaipur. With a rich experience as Research Associate, Style curator, Sports Leader, faculty and head at various renowned companies and institutions, she is a recipient of National Overseas Scholarship for Ph.D. in Design. She is also a recipient of the Doctor of Philosophy and Graduate Certificate of Research and Innovation Management by Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia in 2019-2020.

What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

“Guidance and atmosphere for achieving a prosperous career ahead”

My key responsibilities include mentoring students throughout their design projects and maintaining firm communication and coordination with students to give them space to share their academic challenges. As a teacher, I must provide conceptual clarity on the subjects taught and formulate the best learning environment to motivate the students not only to learn but also to innovate. I help in honing the design skills by giving them creative exercises and preparing assignments and activities which could yield them learning and earning.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects?

“Teaching through effectual means and updating the curriculum to determine changes”

Case studies and real world examples prove to be the best elements to be included in the content delivery in classroom timetable; students are able to realize the real world application and other related aspects to it. Also, seminars and expert sessions are arranged with industry experts to enhance the knowledge and exposure. I promote observational skills wherein I ask students to pick the challenges as assignment topics which they have experienced. As per the student’s grasping power and the academic schedule, I try to do some changes so that the syllabus is not just covered but also taught effectively. I believe in incorporating the feedback from students and fellow faculties to improvise on the strategies as well.

How do you help your students to expose them to real world challenges? 

“Imparting greater knowledge with a balance between theory and practical”

By nurturing students’ skills along with conceptual clarity of subject topics via internships and training are crucial in their academic growth. In addition, other parts of academics like comprehension, reading, observational, etc. are also taken into consideration by various expert faculties in the University to make the students' learning experience holistic and potentially beneficial. Students are pushed to take up activities to enhance their leadership and creative skills besides collaborations and competitions from giant organizations.

How do you tend to establish a healthy environment in your institute? 

“Communicating with utmost responsiveness”

Communication is the key. It is always important to listen to the students and other fellow faculties to correspond better. One should be patient enough to listen and then respond accordingly. Students must be given opportunities to give feedback about anything and everything related to academics and administrative activities.

What are the approaches you bring in apart from curriculum to train the students? 

“Dissecting various skill enhancement perspectives for students”

I scrutinize the work of students and on the basis of that I do the individual feedback round so they understand where they are lacking. Counselling is quite vital throughout the academic journey of students and I focus on the same. I create opportunities like seminars, video presentations and competitions where students can pitch their ideas and personality that definitely turns out to be fruitful with respect to skill development.

What valuable advice would you like to give to the students? 

“Explore and learn everyday and be curious”

Always decode the concept in their general and contextual meaning, be curious to know the process behind any design. Keep your senses alive and work accordingly. Remember, great success can be achieved with working a bit more than usual every day.
