Mr. Ashu Gupta is currently working as Assistant Professor - Sustainable Design at CODE, Vivekanand Global University (VGU), Jaipur. He is a Managing Partner of Design2Occupancy Services LLP (D2O) which is a Sustainable Consulting firm and is an active volunteer in building various Engineering Societies like ISHRAE, ASHRAE, ASSOCAM, FSAI, IAQA, IBPSA, ISLE and IAEMP at the local, national as well as international level. Along with having several credentials such as IGBC AP, PQP, GEM CP and BEE certified ECBC Master Trainer, he has received Rajasthan and U.P. Energy Conservation Awards, and Developing Leader Award by ASHRAE, 2019.

What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

“Offering mentorship and designing the right course plan”

My role is to mentor the students and provide full guidance to the students in the respective subject and topics. I work on regular communication with students as well to make the process smooth and adaptable. I support my students if they are facing any issue and challenges, and engage them in activities, hands-on workshops and webinars. Together with other faculty and concerned authorities, I plan and prepare appropriately the assigned Sustainable Design Course and lectures for students, and endow it with industry related opportunities for helpful exposure. I take my responsibility to maintain a safe, orderly environment conducive to learning that appreciates and motivates students.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects?

“Applying industry standards and interesting teaching pedagogy”

Sustainable Design is one of those subjects which require extensive practical understanding instead of the conventional book learning. Regular case studies and presentations are being implied to help students understand how theoretical methods are used in real life projects around the world. Additionally, I share interesting videos and give practical assignments for out of the class learning and better understanding. Also, several projects and training sessions are organized to aid them with modern trends and innovation in the field. 

How do you strategize the curriculum to make it befitting for the students? 

“Bringing in suitable changes and differential methodologies”

As a particular topic demands, I change the pace with which I am teaching. If a topic requires learning, I give out assignments so students can remember it. If a topic requires understanding, I make some case studies and video presentations or PPTs. Being in contact with other faculty from my department and industry experts; we work together in making changes to our curriculum as demand arises. Industrial visits give a unique experience which is vital to learning. A balanced approach to theoretical and practical parts of my subject is offered to the students.

How do you help your student to cope up with the competition and gain relevant skills?

“Fostering holistic growth through best practical measures”

As student’s gain practical understanding and work on projects, their portfolio gets better which helps them during placements. For the students who are aiming to go for higher education, exposure is given to them focusing on publishing papers and articles along with presentations in conferences. I also motivate students to get some industry credentials by helping and nurturing their interests in and out of class, which helps them to get the good opportunity in the first place. Working on real life projects through internships or part-time work, pushing everyone to give their full commitment in the class, having a friendly and fun study environment for all, aids better development and boosts confidence.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students?

“Giving assistance and conferring communications”

Keeping a track of every student and praising helps a lot to establish good relationships. The out of class attention to every student is one of the best approaches. If any advice relating to any topic like exams or work opportunities presents to the students, I offer myself personally. A general track of academic performance also helps in monitoring how students perform. A friendly communication related to academic and professional development is really helpful in bestowing good relations within the campus.

What valuable advice would you like to give to the students?

“Work hard and update your skills with the trending world”

You don’t have to be the smartest person in the room to succeed, just be the hardest working. Discipline is far better than passion in every aspect of life. Regulate your ideas and ideologies with transforming technological developments of the modern world. Regularly update and upgrade yourself to achieve your goals.
