Mr. Mangi Lal is working as a Department Head for Bachelors in Computer Application at St Wilfred's institute of engineering and technology for the last 3 years. During his professional journey till date he has worked as an assistant telecommunication engineer, site engineer and stoke management. He has done B.Tech with IT and M.Tech with CS. What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

“To provide them best education and environment to learn and grow”

As a Faculty of BCA and B.Tech Department, my roles and responsibilities towards the students are to Instruct all the students to attend the classes regularly and to follow the dress code, to maintain discipline in college. Apart from all these, I also motivate the students to attend the different kinds of seminars and sessions which are arranged by college for their benefit, to motivate the students to present papers in conferences and seminars at regional and national level.


How do you establish healthy relations with the students?

“I provide an open environment to them to communicate”

To establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty, I ensure to spend 1-On-1 Time with students and that’s how I develop an interest in their doubts, likes, dislikes and recommendations be it related with studies or management. I also try to inculcate some funny moments during classroom teaching so that they can learn everything with whole heart.


How do you introduce practical and industry oriented approaches towards subjects?

“By ensuring more experimental work and updating myself with latest technologies”

To get practical academic help, it is vital to help yourself and do things on your own. And when it comes to subjects, I try to Involve my students in different practical programs across the country where they may participate in a group or solo. I also encourage them to keep themselves updated with the technology.

Which best practices are offered by the department to help students gain necessary skills?

“We conducts various activities which can supplements the curriculum”

The following best practices offered by the department to the students which help them gain necessary skills. We provide them close advisory from the first day. It’s mandatory for students to attend classes for all year. We ensure to offer theory and practical experience by conducting various workshops, sessions by industry experts and through unique activities during classroom teaching. We also have various communities to conduct inter department activities.


How do you strategize and update the curriculum to make it befitting for the students?

“We keep it updated after taking suggestions from professional and faculties”

We strategize our curriculum by keeping in mind our vision, objectives and student as well as industry needs. To fulfill these first, we identify resources and then develop programs and activities accordingly. Our institute continuously takes input from industries and academic experts to design cutting edge curricula. The academic Senate, experts from industry and academia guide the change. The Institute has provisions for short and long duration internship for students to understand best practices in the industry. 


What are your views upon the placements from your department?

“We try to ensure 100% placement assurance through industrial trainings and sessions”

We have included placement preparation as part of our courses to give the double whammy of work experience and education. We have a dedicated placement cell with regards to placements and this cell is in sync with various firms and industries to get an idea about the industry demands and after getting the idea we try to provide the corresponding training to our students. We also invite organizations to interview our students in college. And from the last few years experience, I can definitely say that a decent number of students get placed every year in multiple organizations.


What extracurricular activities are organized in college to enhance the skills of the students?

“Various cultural-academic activities are organized to make students future ready”

We do have a variety of extracurricular activities to enhance the skills of the students or to expose them to real world challenges. Some of the activities I would like to mention here are Part-time jobs or volunteering. We do provide a chance to students for student body positions, we have Culture-based clubs who organize various cultural activities throughout the year, similarly we do have Arts Clubs who take care of the arts related programs.


What are the challenges you faced to uplift the quality of education of your department?

“Scarcity of required resources and knowledge base is the main challenge in front of us”

We have identified five key challenges for the quality of education in our department:

When you joined this college, what was your vision?

“To ensure best education facilities for students”

I came with the vision to prepare students to be change makers in their professional workforces after graduation, to help students identify and solve the major challenges facing civilization in the coming decades. To fulfill this vision to some extent, I try to encourage them to create a culture of innovation and inquiry and show students that they are powerful actors in society. I ensure to cultivate partnerships between my students and industry so that they leave university with both workforce ready skills and the social capital required for gaining meaningful employment in their fields.


What are the approaches you bring in apart from curriculum to teach the students?

“I ensure to connect with them more and more to resolve their academic issues on time”

The interventions and approaches I use to teach my students apart from curriculum are: I try to build a healthy relationship with every student by providing multiple opportunities to inculcate experiential learning.

What are the greatest strengths of college’s and how can they be enhanced?

“Our teaching and non-teaching staff are our main pillars of strength”

We have a well-trained, research oriented, experienced, dedicated and energetic teaching faculty and due to them we have very Impressive and excellent results at University Examinations. We also have supportive non-teaching and laboratory staff. We are putting our best efforts to increase student’s strength, with a high enrollment ratio of SC/ST/OBC with a dominant female student’s ratio. We maintain a very good interface with industries, research and educational institutes.
