Dr. Manoj Chandak is working as a Dean at Sharad Pawar Dental College. He has completed his BDS and MDS degrees. After post-graduation, Dr. Chandak joined Sharad Pawar Dental College as a Lecturer. Since then he has held various academic portfolios at the institute namely Head of the Department, Dean Academic, Dean Examinations, etc. He is currently a member of the Academic Counselling Committee, Board of Studies.

What keeps you connected with the education sector and how has your experience been so far?

“Inspiration to improve student’s life by educating them and learn something new for myself” 

Teaching and research are my passions. As an educator, I don’t just teach students, I also have to keep upskilling and learning the current trends. This way I can pay back and at the same time can fulfill my desire of enhancing the existing education system. It has been a wonderful journey till date working at various positions in college. I have full freedom to inculcate the best quality practices to be incorporated which will fulfill the aspirations of learners.


What are your roles and responsibilities?

“To provide the best guidance and do the resolution of their issues on time”

The prime role of the Head of an Academic Department is to provide strong academic leadership. I ensure the best possible student experience. 

  • The fulfillment of the University´s responsibilities concerning students in respect of their admission, instruction, progress and examination. 
  • Refresh and develop new programs in order to attract new students. 

What extracurricular activities are organized in college to enhance the skills of the students?

“We do organize a variety of academic-cultural events on regular basis”

As we all are aware that extracurricular activities provide a channel for reinforcing the lessons learned in the classroom, offering students the opportunity to apply academic skills in a real-world context, and are thus considered part of a well-rounded education. We have extracurricular programs like Ganesh Festival Celebration, Energia-Annual sports event, Community postings, Literary events, Students clubs, etc. 


How does the curriculum of an institute ensure the future preparedness of students?

“We keep ourselves updated with industry trends and design curricula accordingly”

To promote a systematic approach to curriculum design, update and timely implementation through a standing mechanism of curricular revision are done every three years. The University ensures structured evaluation of curricular revision process through its copyrighted curriculum evaluation model. Our faculties keep on ensuring that they are up to date with the latest requirements of industries and can accordingly plan the curriculum.

How do you introduce practical and industry-oriented approaches towards subjects?

“Through experiments, projects and professional visits”

We ensure to develop skills in the planning and organization of learning activities. We also provide and ask for feedback during classroom teaching to evaluate our own learning. I encourage students to put into practice the knowledge and skills they have been developing through more traditional teaching methods instead of focusing only on theoretical knowledge. We organize industry visits as well to get in-depth knowledge of exact industry needs.


What are the approaches you bring in apart from curriculum to teach students?

“We do have various programs and training for students”

Our University emphasizes a learner-centric teaching approach that is directed towards the development of the professional competencies of our students. We have incorporated a variety of learning modalities, to name a few, I would like to mention, PBL – Problem-based learning ∙ MPBL – Modified problem based learning ∙ ITP – Integrated teaching program ∙ Tutorials ∙ Symbiosis ∙ ECE – Early clinical exposure ∙ Interactive Intra-group tutorials The University has taken steps to facilitate the transition from traditional classrooms into an e-learning environment is as follows through E-classrooms, E-learning resources, Kiosk with updated information, Knowledge portal through the internet, provision of ebooks and e-journals and Digital library.


What do you see as the greatest strengths of college?

“Our teaching and non-teaching staff are our main pillars of strength”

Our strengths are our highly motivated students, faculty, and staff. All of them are cohesively working to build RGIPT stronger and a preferred destination for students, faculty, and corporates. Apart from all these, we do have the best Clinical material, Strong leadership imparting education of best standards. 


What are some of the biggest challenges you see for DMIMS specifically?

“Financial constraints and keeping teaching staff intact with our college”

Rural setup, Limited funding, Retention of faculty are some of the biggest challenges for our institute and we are trying our best to overcome these milestones.

“Be patient but limitless in learning”

The youths are the strength of society. Society identifies youth as a person who has agility, creativity, zeal, vigor and a tendency to change the world. The youth must be kind, fearless, humble, and decisive and goal-oriented. This is the right age to select your career goal and it must be in the right direction.
