Dr. Anish Kumar Sharma works as Principal, School of Sciences of P. P. Savani University. Dr. Sharma has pursued his Ph.D. in major subject of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology with minor subject Microbiology and have qualified GATE Biotechnology in 2011 with (AIR-151 and 99.01 percentile), ICAR-(ARS-NET) in 2013 (67%), CSIR-NET examination in 2013 with AIR-33 and ICAR (ARS-NET) again in 2018 (60%). He has published research papers in National as well as International journals of repute. He submitted 10 nucleotide DNA sequences in NCBI. He has membership of various reputed International and National Science Societies. He has attended as well as participated in many National & International conferences, workshops, training and Faculty Development Programs. He articulates the importance of education and becoming a helping hand in transforming the society in his interview.

The education sector plays an important role in transforming the society 

The key reason for staying connected in the education sector is because it brings transformation in the society. Teaching profession in the education sector allows me to keep on learning and it keeps me satisfied seeing my students learning and bringing change in their lives.

Our goal is to empower our students and keep them ready for the forthcoming challenges

I think leadership is not the position but the process in which the leader can influence the team members to accomplish the organisation’s goal. Being the Principal of School of Sciences, P P Savani University, our goal is to empower our students and keep them ready for the forthcoming challenges. To achieve this goal; I try my best to lead my team by example. I would describe my leadership style as Transformational as I intend to facilitate transformation which will bring out the best in all of us.

Being a Leader, it is quite essential to be ready with strategies for administration and marketing of my school

As a leader, I know the strength of my team members and while allotting the administrative tasks, I assign the tasks according to their core strength. Such a strategy allows them to work happily and I get the best possible work done.

For marketing, I truly believe that word of mouth is the best strategy to reach people. For us, the feedback of our students and parents is essential. So, our strategy is to satisfy the parents and students’ expectations. In the education sector, our product is our student and hence we look forward to getting best feedback from them, and I think this would help us to reach people who are truly seeking good education.

The education scenarios differ because of the state of development and culture in the foreign countries 

Education system in India and foreign countries is quite different. The difference is because of state of development and culture. School of Sciences always tries to bridge this gap by updating the curriculum from time to time. As our subjects are more of a practical nature, we have well equipped laboratories, which enable our students to have hands-on training on different instruments and equipment so they are future ready for global research or a job.

Our courses are aligned with the latest trends and developments of the industry 

Currently, School of Sciences is running B.Sc. Programme in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Environment Science, Chemistry, IT, and Fire Safety and M.Sc. programme in Biotechnology, Microbiology and Chemistry. Aforementioned courses are applied courses and are aligned with the industries and have a direct link with them. Our institute and University are located in the GIDC area which is Asia’s Largest Industrial Zone and is a densely Industrial belt which facilitates the students to stay constantly connected with the Industries. We follow best practises such as we design our course understanding the needs of the Industries and while doing so we invite Industry representatives as one of the Board of Studies (BOS) Members. We frequently organise events and give a platform to our students to interact with Industries. Industrial tours are one of our initiatives to envisage student-industry relationships.

The best aspect of being a university student is there are multiple sources of knowledge which are placed in a platter 

I truly believe that University is a place where people from different races and economic backgrounds come together and should be treated equally. I also believe that the University is a place where we civilise our children and enable them to be better citizens. Understanding this, as a Principal I make sure to treat my all students equally. During the student’s orientation programme, we organise few counselling sessions and instruct the students that ragging of juniors or classmates for their race and socio-economic background will not be tolerated. And I am proud to state that so far, I have not encountered such an incident at School of Sciences.

Our faculty are qualified individuals with a proven track record of practical work experience

The USP that I would like to share is the quality of teaching staff. As I told you, we are dedicated to achieve our vision and mission and therefore we have recruited the best teaching staff. Almost all the faculties are Doctorate and few of them are Post Doctorate. Most of them have qualified NET, GATE, ICMR and SET exams (eligibility test to become Professor). The best part is that the selected faculties are from different regions of our Country and hence we have diversity in our team. We also have a well facilitated and well equipped lab which ensures our practical approach towards teaching. P.P. Students should make wise decisions in order to succeed in their future endeavors 

I would like to suggest to students that learning is a never-ending process. Throughout our life, we learn through formal or informal ways. The informal ways could be from our society, parents, relatives and friends and in the formal ways, the learning happens in a structured manner. And hence it is very important to select an ideal place for formal learning. I suggest the aspiring student to select their college, Institute and University wisely because it will have a strong impact on their career which shall resonate for the rest of their lives.
