Sonali: “General (No reservation)”

Describe the general setting of WAT / GD (if any)?

Sonali: “There was WAT in SAP process of IIM Jammu. It was an offline WAT. Students were made to sit on chairs with a gap of one chair between 2 students. A white sheet and Paper slips (those had different topics written on them) were distributed and then 15-20 minutes were given to students to write on the topic.”

What was the WAT / GD Topic?

Sonali: "My topic for WAT was one of the prevailing topics of that time. It was " Should India go for its Bullet Train project" (not exactly this but something on these lines)”

What were your answer/points put forward for the WAT or GD respectively? 

Sonali: “I incorporated facts for both aspects i.e., "for" and "against" of the topic. I also included figures related to poverty in India, impact on GDP and international footing of India if we go ahead with the project. The future candidates should be handy with common figures like poverty rate, employment rate, equality rate, life quality index, HDI etc. of India.”

Describe the general setting of your personal Interview.

Sonali: “There were different panels sitting in different rooms. My panel had 2 panellists who were the faculty members of the institute. It was an offline interview and lasted for nearly 20-25 minutes. It wasn't exactly a stress interview. Panellists will cross-question on what you answer for the previous question. But if you are clear on your concepts, you won't feel any pressure.”

Sonali: “1. What is NPV

A. It's the Net present value of all the future cash flows of any project taken by a company.

2. What is IRR.

A. This is the rate of return where NPV if a project = 0

3. Which is better?

A. NPV is better because cut off IRR is decided as per managerial experience and is not correctly calculated many times which leads to rejection of profitable projects.
