Dr. Reshma Khurana is a Principal of the Physiotherapy and Paramedical Sciences department at the Malwanchal University, Indore, Madhya Pradesh. She has 16 years of Teaching experience and Clinical experience of 20 years. Her expertise includes postnatal PT treatment, orthopedic PT management, and cancer Rehab. She is a member of the CEC Central Zone in the Indian Association Of Physiotherapists and the National Head PG Academic Committee in IAP.
What keeps you connected with the Education Sector, and how has your experience been so far with Malwanchal University?
“To learn new ideas and teach students keeps me connected with the education sector”
I have been in academics for the last 16 glorious years and have practiced physiotherapy for about 20 years. My journey in the education sector and medical sector has been wonderful. In the medical field, my learning never stops, and complimenting by teaching about our wonderful students is a rewarding experience.
Being the Principal of Malwanchal University, what is your leadership philosophy, and describe your leadership style?
“Encourage us to share ideas, and work in a participative team coordination on all activities”
Our campus believes in student first policy. Any decision we take must keep students in the back of our mind. Later, decide what will be betterment for them and their education. We follow a participative team coordination in all activities. While every member has a specific duty to perform, we also encourage them to share ideas and decide as a whole on the final decision.
How does the curriculum of Malwanchal University ensure the best practice of industry?
“Emphasis on the practical part as in courses, clinical exposure and skills of students”
At our institute, we are running two PG programs in physiotherapy and paramedical. We have two-degree courses in physiotherapy and lab technician. Apart from these, we have five diploma courses and three certificate courses. We provide students with clinical exposure along with practical knowledge and the theoretical part. We lay more emphasis on the practical part as in courses, more clinical exposure and carve out students to be skilled.
Any insights into how your department could be more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?
“Provide scholarships, and fee concessions for respective students”
At our institute, we have 700+ plus students. We welcome students from every section of the society. Furthermore, we provide students with difficult economic backgrounds scholarship facilities to help them in study. This is all because of our respected chairman Shri Suresh Singh Bhadoria sir, who made our institute so conducive. Hence, students will not face any issue and get a reliable education.

What do you think your roles and responsibilities are to Malwanchal University and students?
“To develop students' abilities and acquire them with new skills”
As a principal, I am responsible for day to day administrative work and focus on developing students’ abilities. I am also responsible for the wellbeing and development of teachers. As a physiotherapist, I have been working by the philosophy “Physiotherapist adds life to the years”. We help the students in learning ideas and acquiring new skills which help them in becoming the best physiotherapist. Additionally, I am responsible for all general work of a principal which we have to perform in order to achieve the mission of the institute.
What would you like people to know about your institute they may not know?
“Well-equipped lab, library, faculties, and practical learning are available from our campus”
I like people to know that we are one of the best well-equipped institutes. We have a capacity of 1100 bed hospital, well-equipped lab, library and faculties who are very experienced. Our institute is focused on practical knowledge. Students will not face any issue in practical learning. We have our own hospital which provides them ample opportunity to excel.
What do you see as the greatest strengths of Malwanchal University?
“Medical institute, great infrastructure, best library facility, well-equipped lab , faculties and students”
Our greatest strength is students. Apart from that, we have an 1100 bed hospital, 250 seats in the medical institute, great infrastructure, best library facility, well-equipped lab and clinical facility to expose them to practical part of our curriculum. Our campus is located in a rural area which provides great opportunities for our students to learn.
What are the biggest challenges you see for higher education in general and campus?
“Communication issues, and changing environments are great challenges for pupils”
I think challenges are not a shortcoming, it's just an opportunity. In our department, students face communication issues in some instances. To tackle this, we give students communication skill classes. It helps them in understanding the study material more easily.
