Dr. Devika Phukan is currently serving as a Deputy Dean (RSAPS) of Royal Global University, Guwahati, Assam. An alumnus of Dibrugarh University she has two decades of experience in the education sector and presently working at Royal global university since the inception of the educational organization in 2009. Recipient of best faculty award from the present organization in 2013-2014 and being from the Physics background, she is the co-author of two books and with few international publications has guided 4 M.Phil students and has at present a few Ph.D. research students. Her vision of education is building an educated cluster of human beings where the quality of working and growing together, ramping, motivating, and sharing to perform the best in the field of education.
What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?
“To interact with students and inculcate the moral values in them”
My role as being a Deputy Dean is to keep in interaction with the students of UG and PG. To inculcate in them the morality and values of being a good human which can enrich the society with quality education, for a better tomorrow.
How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?
“Providing students with interactive sessions for clearing doubts”
Trying to build a habit where all students get the opportunities to express their extracurricular activities, their feelings towards study, friends, to speak their mind of interest can create positivity and healthy relation among the students. Work is a place where we spend the best part of our day, so I feel we must discuss and create harmony to build a better working place.I feel students get motivated when they are tried to be understood about their interests, so i think we must explain and discuss the practical applications necessary in the day to day life for a better practical approach to the subjects
How does your department prepare students for Higher education?
“Providing students with guides for exams like NET, GATE, etc”
We in our department of Physics, guide the students by making them prepare for JAAM, NET, GATE and at times we also take them to institutes where research is going on for decades. These motivate the students to think big and think higher. Students nowadays aspire to go for research which we are also creating in the department.
Do you have any extracurricular programs to enhance the skills of the students?
“To expose students to real-world challenges”
Yes, we take students to different places for learning things with eye view along with normal education. They are exposed to going outside the campus for projects during their study schedule.

What are the challenges you are facing in uplifting the quality of education of your department?
“Providing Students with well equipped online classes at regular intervals”
Challenges themselves give the road to survival; we are trying to give them knowledge so that they understand what is study, research, and growth by giving them time and effort. During this online period, we left no stones unturned to be in touch with all students, including students from places where network activity is weak. We send hard copies of materials so that they are no longer missing the routine of life.
When you came to college, what was your vision and how are you trying to achieve the same?
“Providing students with the best quality education”
Students are an outcome of parents and teachers as a whole, so to keep in touch with the mental and physical health of students; we arrange parents and teachers interactions where the parents' opinions and our suggestions are discussed for the development of inward and physical health of students. We have sports and extracurricular sessions for the students during the weekdays.
How does the department enhance the skills of the faculty?
“Providing Facilities with various industrial-oriented Programs”
Faculties are given the opportunities to attend conferences, seminars, and an ambiance is created when every faculty gets the opportunity to bring their talent outward. Department focuses on preparing every faculty member according to the industry standards.
What are the interventions you bring in apart from the curriculum to train the students?
“Providing students with well-designed interactive online sessions for solving the doubts”
I interact with the students to help them be at home in the university, those who are new to hostel life, support them morally and also try to give them company to visit places that help them know new things.
What do you see as the department’s greatest strengths and how it can be enhanced?
“True guidance and hard work are the greatest strengths of our department”
Our department is a dedicated and hard believer in the ethics of true guidance and work. We guide the students, as all are Ph.D. holders from good organizations and therefore we always give quality time to our students.

What advice would you like to give the students for their prosperous career ahead?
“Students should follow their heart while choosing their career path”
A career is where we want to live a satisfactory life. So my only advice to students will be to love what they do and there is no shortcut for success. The demand of industry is drastically changing in present time. Therefore, students should adjust themselves according to the changing demands.
