Dr B.L.Shivakumar is the Principal at Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science Coimbatore, Tamil nadu. He has about 25 years of experience in teaching, research and administration. With a Ph.D. in Computer Science, he has published more than 90 research papers in national and international journals. He has successfully guided eleven Ph.D. Research Scholars from leading Universities. He is the recipient of Bharat Jyoti award conferred by The India International Friendship Society, New Delhi and NSS Best Programme Officer award by Bharathiar University. His interests include Computer Forensic Science, Network Security and Cloud computing.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

As we all know that the youth of today are tomorrow’s leaders. It is pertinent that they are upskilled and capable of making meaningful contributions to society. Other than parents, teachers have arguably the biggest influence on a child's life. It is a big opportunity to make a difference in the lives of numerous students and contribute to our community in a meaningful way. 

What is your philosophy of leadership? 

“True leadership facilitates discussion and collaboration”

I would like to influence and improve the institution as a whole with the skills and experience I have gained over the years. I strongly believe in teamwork. I would like to act as a mentor to both staff and students and work together toward a common vision. My leadership philosophy is that “Leaders must have a vision and articulate it clearly to provide direction for the group”. Thus paving the way for excellence in the institution.

SRCAS aims to promote higher education by stabilizing its fidelity to academic supremacy along with eminent faculty for the development of the students. How does the curriculum of the College ensure the best practice of industry?

To enable our students to become industry ready, we have brought in many changes to our curriculum. 

  • We have industry experts in our Board of Studies, Academic Council, Curriculum Development Council and Governing Body to bring in the best of standards. 
  • Our curriculum and learning aspects are in line with international standards and industrial requirements.
  • In addition, many of our courses are integrated with industries such as TCS, Google, IBM, ACCA etc. 
  • We have a special component called PACE (Personality Ability Career Enhancement) through which the industry experts train our students in problem-solving skills, communication skills, interview performance, etc. 
  • In most of our courses and programs, we insist on a minimum of 30 hours of summer Internship training in industries.

What do you think your responsibilities to the college and the students are?

My main role is to provide leadership within and on behalf of the College. At the same time, encourage healthy and productive student engagement and stimulate academic attainment. Our aim is to create a culture whereby students can develop each other’s skills. Also, motivate and support staff to meet the goal of the institution.

What do you think should be the college’s top priority over the next 10 years?

“To inculcate the habit of research in cross-cultural environments”

Our priority for the future is to strengthen the academia and industry relationship. Additionally, to use immersive technologies such as Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR). These will enhance the way students engage with education. Also, to incorporate the skills for the enhancement of native jobs.
