Dr. S.Girish is a Professor in Civil Engineering at B.M.S. College of Engineering, Bangalore. He has completed his B.E. from NIE, Mysore and M.E. from Bangalore University. He has 34 years of experience in teaching, consultancy and research. He has worked on Self- Compacting Concrete for his doctoral work and has published research papers in various National and International Journals and conferences and exceeds more than 60. He has presented papers abroad several times in RILEM Conferences in Ghent, Belgium (SCC 2007), Montreal, Canada (SCC 2010) Paris, France (SCC 2013) and in other conferences in Hong Kong (ACE BLM 2011). He was the recipient of the Karnataka State Academic award from the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology for the best project in the years 2009, 2011, 2013and 2015.

Being a Faculty, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

"To imbibe true knowledge of my discipline to the students"

My role is to mentor the students to become responsible citizens with strong cutting edge knowledge of the subjects in Civil Engineering with a flavour towards innovation and service to mankind

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty? 

"I believe in transparency and maintaining friendly relations with faculty members and students"

To have more interaction and to understand their ambition, approach and interest and to work towards that and in a way to be a good friend to them and a shoulder to lean on at times of distress 

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects and make it industry-oriented?

"Encourage the students to be proactive"

I actively involve industry personnel for interaction with students and to encourage studentship during holidays and include value-added courses apart from the curriculum from the best knowledge in and around and also elsewhere through webinars and other interactive modes of communication.

How do you strategize the curriculum and how often it gets updated to make it befitting for the students? 

"We regularly update our curriculum as per industry standards"

Keep continuous interaction with reputed industries by working on deputation for a short period of time on a continuum basis and to have exchange programs and also to keep abreast with the progress in the chosen domain by attending programs in India and abroad etc.

What are your views on the higher education of students from your department?

"We offer our students an exposure to teaching"

They are much ahead of many students in the world with exposure to teaching and other interaction along with the best infrastructure that we have and it has taken them to many premier institutions and industries with ease both within and outside India. This is the greatest asset of my Institution.

How do you help your student to cope up with the competitive environment? 

"To encourage them to participate in competitions"

We encourage our students to keep themselves abreast with the latest knowledge, both academic and otherwise with a membership of many organizations.
