What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

“My role revolves around developing students for the placements and internships”

My primary role is to create final placements and internships opportunities for students. It is possible by developing a strong network with corporations and engaging with them regularly. My role also involves planning and organizing placements related training initiatives that equip students with the necessary skills. Simultaneously, students should be prepared for industry and to face the selection process successfully..

How do you tend to build an industry connection with your college?

“We ensure to prepare students right from the beginning for the industry”

We engage with corporates through workshops, interactive sessions, SYMBI Talks, Finance summit. In these sessions, corporate leaders as panellists are invited to portray the industrial scenario existing in the country. During the induction, program industry experts address the students on how to prepare for a successful career. This year, we introduced “MASTERCLASS” a mentorship program on similar lines. The mentorship is aimed at enabling students to plan their future more effectively and be groomed as socially responsible corporate citizens.

The pandemic saw the birth of SYMBINAR, (a webinar) where corporate personalities from various industries and backgrounds interacted with the students using the digital platform to keep the learning experience on, even during the lockdown. Conferences and conclaves conducted by CII or NHRD have been an effective way of connecting and building a corporate network. Also, personal visits to establish contact and a personal rapport with industry is an effective strategy for us.

What do you think are the expectations of the Corporate Industry from the students?

“With the right attitude begins the journey to succeed in corporate jobs”

While academic performance and domain knowledge is required to do well at an interview, specific skills are a prerequisite, irrespective of job roles offered by corporates. Some of them include teamwork, learning ability, clear communication and thought process. Besides, these qualities, corporates look for integrity and sincerity, openness to the new initiative and above all, a right attitude.

Most of the recruiters these days place an attitude above all as they feel that knowledge can be imparted and a candidate can be developed, provided they have the right attitude.

What are the placement statistics in your college?

“Our placements have observed a significant rise ”

Each year SIBM has been able to attract about 50% new companies to hire talent for the campus. Last year we had achieved over 94% placements with 65 companies associating with us, and 30 of them were new companies engaging with us for the first time.

“External sources are roped in to train the aspirants in Resume building, Group Discussions, facing Interviews, Grooming and cracking aptitude tests. Mock interviews by industry experts help the students address areas of improvement.”

When you came to the college, what was your vision and how are you trying to achieve the same?

“We are eventually growing strong every year”

The Vision was to become one of the most preferred campuses for campus engagement in South India. To meet the objective, we have been growing steadily in our networking, and our alumni are performing very well, which in the coming years will pay dividends.
